Question about 2008 Chevrolet Malibu

1 Answer

2008 malibu drive noise

My wife came in telling me to check her front right tire due to a noise. The noise increases as she speeds up. I drove the car and she is correct. The car has 85000 miles on it and the tires, 10000. I inspected the tires and could see no problem. I jacked the right side up and put in gear. I can now hear the noise as I speed up. It sounds like a 4 wheel drive vehicle with aggresive tires speeding up and slowing down. Please help!

Front end thumping that gets faster with speed

check for bulges in the side walls of the tyres and check for belt separation. Disconnect the front axles into free wheel mode and if the noise is not there it will be tyre related as there is no movement in the diff or drive axles

2002 aurora, ticking/buzzing noise from front of car. louder with increased vehicle speed, but not affected by engine rpm. checked brakes, calipers, pads, tires, all look good. transaxle fluid level...

so it has some to do with rotation. you can jack one front wheel up, set parking brakes, start the car and put in drive. which ever side make noise, that's the one you need to inspect cv-axle, wheel bearing, ect.
check any thing that turns with the wheel

There is a noise in the front of my front tires that increases when i increase in speed and stops when i slow down

This could be a bad wheel bearing. When driving, slowly turn left and right if the pitch of the noise changes, it will be a bearing.

It may also be your tires wearing badly. Simply rub your hands over the tire, the tread should be nice and smooth. If it dips in and out your tires are the cause, and further inspection should be done to find out why the tires wore that way.

The front right tire clicks when driving. the speed of the clicking increases as speed of the car increases. what is causing the clicking sound?

possibly a cv joint is going or perhaps a wheel bearing. any other symptoms ? in a parking lot turn the wheel all the way to the right and drive slowly in a circle and listen for a clicking sound... then turn it to the left and repeat. make sure it's an empty parking lot and you don't hit anything.

2008 cobalt has recently developed shimmy in front end at low speed..<45mph is problem alignment or something more serious??also, road noise which has always been somewhat loud has definitely increased.

Your cobalt should still be under warranty, so you should bring it back to the dealer. If you have done massive driving and your out of warranty, then il'd have to say that you may have a wheel bearing hub gone bad and needs to be replaced. Check the tire pressure first, tire condition and look for any signs if tire damage like tire belt separation. Tire belt separation is when the steel belt in the tires that keep the tire it's shape has broke and there is a flat spot causing the wheel shimmy. If your not sure, rotate the wheel by placing the front wheels to the rear and the rear to the front, making sure the tires are properly inflated to the recommended PSI. Good luck and start with checking the tire first.

2004 Chevrolet Malibu front end hum

I think your right that its a bad bearing or hub. If your feeling it in the gas pedal and the floor, its most likely the front. If you can find an empty parking lot, try to get up to the speed it starts making the noise, and turn left and right. With the extra load being put on each bearing from turning, that will tell you which side it is.

Noise coming from front of car

It sounds exactly like a wheel bearing problem. The right side its seems would be the problem. When you turn right it puts more pressure on the bad bearing making it louder. I would suggest replacing both. If on is gone the other one isn't far off. Hope this helps
