1997 pathfinder 3.3 v-6. when running an obdii scan i get a code p1447 purge volume control solenoid. check engine has come on all the time. for awhile now engine has been chugging when trying to accelerate up a hill

P1447 EVAP Control System Purge Flow Monitoring


The best way to get this issue taken care of is to have the evap smoked for a leak. There could be other issues but its a lot to chase down and it a lot quicker to do it with a scan tool. Below is a list of issues that could be causing this code.

Replace your MAP/BARO sensor. If this engine is running at a slow sped while climbing a hill with full engine load, the MAP/Baro sensor is defective.

Location should be back by the fuel tank.

first off, the P1447 DTC is triggered when the EVAP control system isn't operating properly or there is a leak between the intake manifold and the pressure sensor. the parts between the pressure sensor and intake manifold are:

1. EVAP canister purge control solenoid valve
2. EVAP canister purge control valve
3. EVAP canister purge volume control valve (Part # 14930-3M201) YOU WILL HAVE TO DOUBLE CHECK ON THE PART NUMBER WITH THE DEALER FOR THE PRICE.

If you've received this P1447 DTC, chances are that the brick of charcoal in the canister has fallen apart over time, and filled the lines with charcoal. this affects parts 2 & 3 from the above list, and of course the EVAP canister (Part # 14950-1s717 $144.22). but when you replace the canister, you have to replace the EVAP canister vent control valve (part # 14935-54u06 about $100), and don't forget the o-ring (part # 16618-40u00 about $1.60) that goes between the canister and the vent control valve.

If you attack this DTC early enough, all you have to replace is the canister and vent control valve with the o-ring, which will add up to under $300 MSRP...a lot better than paying upwards of $1000 for parts and labor. Don't be scared to do it, it's actually quite simple.

What does code p1447 mean ...???


The code says "evap purge flow monitor fault"
Possible causes include ...
- EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve stuck closed.
- EVAP control system pressure sensor and its circuit.
- Loose, disconnected, or improper connection of rubber tube.
- Blocked rubber tube.
- Blocked or bent rubber tube to MAP/BARO switch solenoid valve.
- Cracked EVAP canister.
- EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve.
- Closed Throttle Position Switch.
- Improper connection of one-way valve.
- Blocked purge port.
- EVAP canister vent control valve.


This is a "jackpot" code. It points to so many possible causes as to be almost useless.

Usually charcoal canister has ruptured and vehicle needs canister.
entire system will have charcoal pellets in it. pull the hose at solenoid and see. solenoid can sometimes be cleaned by tapping and blowing with your mouth not compressed air. sometimes needs to be replaced. remove canister and remove pressure sensor(by canister and blow out charcoal with compressed air. wear safety glasses. you will need to blow from both ends several times. don't give up at first nothing comes out and when you pull air gun away charcoal comes out on your hands from pressure release

P1447 and knock sensor code both knock sensor and evap purge valve are in perfect working order and vacuum hose are correct routing and no crack but engine light is still on please help cant pass...


If your map sensor is bad, it will also cause p1447 to illuminate.
You can check the air passage continuity on the map sensor/solenoid valve.
Provide the switch with 12 volts, please note which pin is positive and negative.

Check air passage continuity between A-B, A-C. My manual shows that if there is no continuity between A-B but there is between A-C then your map sensor/solenoid valve is bad and should be replaced.
It is listed as a cause for the p1447 light.

P0443 - Evaporation Emission Control System Purge Control Valve Circuit

Hi. This code is referring to a malfunctioning Valve circuit, or defective purge solenoid.

The Evaporative Emissions System (EVAP) allows fumes from the gas tank to enter the engine to be burned, rather than vented into the atmosphere as an emission(emission control device). The purge valve solenoid is supplied voltage by the battery, and regulated by a switch. The ECM controls the valve by operating the ground circuit, opening the purge valve at specific times, thus, allowing these gasses to enter the engine. The ECM monitors the ground circuit as well, watching for faults. When the purge solenoid isn't activated, the ECM should see a high voltage on the ground circuit. When the solenoid is activated, the ECM should see the ground voltage registered as a low current, close to zero. If the ECM doesn't see these expected voltages, or senses an open circuit, this code is issued.

SYMPTOMS:

Symptoms could be just a malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) illumination. There may be no driving issues at all. But, it's also possible to have a lean condition or a rough running engine if the purge valve is stuck open. Usually, the symptoms are accompanied by other EVAP codes. Another symptom may be excessive pressure in the gas tank in the form of a over pressured sound when the cap is removed, indicating a purge valve that isn't working at all or stuck closed.


CAUSES:

1. Bad Solenoid(mechanical failure, or shorted circuit)
2. Shorted control circuit, or bad harness connection
3. Water Damaged connection
4. Bad ECM/PCM


SOLUTIONS:

1. It is possible to use a diagnostics scan CPU to command the purge valve to operate, manually. Listen or feel for a clicking coming from the purge solenoid. It should click once, or on some models it may click repeatedly.

2. If it doesn't click, unplug the connector, and examine the solenoid and connector for damage(water). Check for battery voltage on the feed wire with the key on. If you have battery voltage, then ground the control side manually using a jumper wire and see if the valve clicks. If it does, then you know the solenoid is working properly but there is a problem with the control circuit. If it doesn't click when you manually ground it, replace the purge solenoid. If it dose click, this will confirm that the solenoid is functional, and the ECM/PCM will be the culprit(Damaged control circuit).

P1447 - Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Control System, Purge Flow Monitor
In this evaporative emission (EVAP) control system, purge flow occurs during non-closed throttle conditions. Purge volume is related to air intake volume. Under normal purge conditions (non-closed throttle), the EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve is open to admit purge flow. Purge flow exposes the EVAP control system pressure sensor to intake manifold vacuum.

Under normal conditions (non-closed throttle), sensor output voltage indicates if pressure drop and purge flow are adequate. If not, a fault is determined. Malfunction is detected when EVAP control system does not operate properly, EVAP control system has a leak between intake manifold and EVAP control system pressure sensor.

Symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)

Possible causes
* EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve stuck closed
* EVAP control system pressure sensor and the circuit
* Loose, disconnected or improper connection of rubber tube
