If the seat has electric motor un plug and remove seat. You will see a long threaded rod that moves the seat front to back. Use Teflon washers to take out the movement and replace the seat. I did this on my 1999 passenger seat and now the driver side is moving. I plan to do it as soon as I get the time. B. Campbell

Probablyt because the little wire cable that activates the release mechanisms on both sliders is broken, and therefor only allowing only one slider to release when you activate the seat adjusting lever, and leaving the other one engaged, preventing you from moving your seat. This is relatively easy to diagnose, if you know what to look for... Just try to see what all moves when you press your lever. See if there is a wire cable that is activated anywhere under your seat it should be relativley close to your lever and run across the open space to the opposite slider.

I have a 99 Silverado and the passenger side seat back will not lock back into the upright position. Locks fine into reclining positions. What could be the problem?

i had this problem on my 96 chevy, basically theres a set of ratcheting gears that lock the seat in place in the various positions. sometimes over time or due to abuse one side or the other gets stripped out and the seat will no longer lock into place. i found a ripped up seat on Craigslist that was in a part out truck and bought it cheap then took both seats in the an upholstery shop, between the junked out seat (15 bucks) and the labor at the shop (50bucks) it cost me 65 bucks to fix, hope this helps

2000 Chev. silverado. Driver seat has approximately 3/8 to 1/2 in free play in the seat mechanism. Seat slides forward and back with acceleration or slowing.

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. Your seat has a locking mechanism that releases when you pull the lever to go up or move back. I would say that it is stuck or it is broken. They are hard to get to in some vehicles. You may have to remove the seat. I would say this is your issue.

My rear brakes are getting way too hot on my 2000 Chevy Silverado. What could be causing this? I just replaced the brake pads and rotors. The back brakes seem to be seizing up and I can't figure out why.

This year of truck did have issues with rear disc brakes. Quality of pads is extremely critical. Go with the AC Delco pads and rotors to eleviate some of the issue. Make sure that the slide pins are liberally lubricated and move freely or drag will cause excessive heat to occur. Let me know if you need anything else.

Have a 1999 Chevy 1500 extended cab. Driver seat is not powered. Won't lock into place, keeps sliding back and forth. Was told I have to replace the whole seat and sliding track by Chevy Dealership. Anyone...

Remove the seat assembly turn it upside down cables come off the handle you pull on to slide seat, Follow these cables to 2 pawls that pivot on tracks and see if they are broken, bent,or just stuck and need cleaned and lubed. If you need new track slider assembly I use to be able to get them all the time from GM parts department and just replace tracks themselves.

How do i remove the seats in my 99 chevy malibu

They are bolted down at four corners. Slide seat all the way back to locate them. Be careful if you see a computer box because you do not want to actuate the air-bags.

1999 Chevrolet Silverado power bucket seats both seats move.

The problem is the track. You can find replacement tracks on EBAY for about 180.00 for driver side.

yes you can remove the center seat but it involves pulling the front pass seat out then taking the two right hand bolts out of the drivers seat then it will pull out then just use the same bolts to reinstall your driver a pass seat

The drivers power seat in my 2000 Chevy Silverado is sliding

The problem is probably due to some shims in the seat rails that have "dissolved". I have posted a video on YouTube that shows what I needed to do to repair my seat. http://youtu.be/sOjivYnXMAQ
