1 Answer

Sorry emmisionwiz I guess you didn't see my comments posted the truck is a 1993 ford ranger with 3.0 standard tranny 2 wheel drive. The truck came through without an egr. that is why I am confused as to why I get code 33

Sounds good but how do i stop light from coming on. the inspection is coming up and it will be rejected if light is on. I am in Rhode Island

I put new plugs, wires, cap rotor, map sensor, ignition modual, and idle control valve. is there anything in addition to o2 sensors to look at. The code has been reset a few times and alwaws comes back. Additional information the light comes on after five minutes of operation and if ignition is shut off and turned back on the light will go off then come back in another five minutes. not sure if that means anything or not

The truck has 112,000 miles on it. Bought it from an elderly gentleman. It was in very poor running condition when i got it but got better with each thing that was replaced. It seems to run very strong now. but the light is driving me nuts, and as mentioned need to get state inspection done :(

Thanks, I will put the o2 sensors in and use the intake cleaner as recomended tomorow after work. After that I will clear the codes and drive for 100 miles then post back the results, most likely Sunday afternoon.

Replaced O2 sensors & cleaned intake but still getting code 33. Perhaps I need to drive the truck for a while before clearing codes? There is a mention about the PCM being programed to a vehical with or without an egr. Is there a way to reprogram it or tell if it was replaced with the wrong PCM before I purchased this truck?

  • glcs Apr 26, 2010

Yes, there is a place for an egr but it has a factory cover on it. The 1993 rangers with the 3.0 and standard tranny dose not have one. the 93s with the automatic do have the egr. I double checked this at a few parts stores and there is no listing for that part on 93s with standard tranny. also the emmisions tag/diagram under the hood shows no egr. I am going to check with the dealer about egr or no egr for this truck. THANKS for the help so far!

The code is normal, this is due to no EGR. Your PCM is programed to a vehicle that has an EGR or one without an EGR. It is the same as receiving a 55 no code or a 12.

Disconnect the battery for about 1 minute. If this does not reset, you can bring it to an Autozone and they can delete the code for you. If the code comes back, you have another problem with an engine management component....possibly O2 sensor related, or may be as simple as spark plug replacement. I don't know what was discussed previously with the other expert.

  • GetMeOttaHere Apr 24, 2010

Spray out the throttle body with intake not use carb cleaner. At this point, with all the parts you replaced, you may as well replace the O2 sensor as I feel this may be the direct cause.

You did not mention how many miles are on this vehicle? Just need to know where we stand from a mechanical standpoint.

You stated the truck came through without an egr, what is meant by this? Is there a place for one. I'm thinking there shuld be, and I must not have understood your first post.

Have you tried disconnecting the negative lead for about 30 seconds to see if this makes a diiference?

I am guessing an automatic. Drain the tranny and clean the governor. Replace and refil the fluid. Inexpensive if you reuse the fluid and not too time consuming.

Need to know what 5 speed transmissions will interchange with a 92 ranger with a 3.0

You didn't mention if it was 2 or 4 wheel drive so I went with a 2 wheel drive. According to hollander the 5 speed transmaaion fits a ranger (2WD) 1991 - 1994 and a Mazda B3000 1994 only. Hope this helps.....

I need to know what u use to remove the driveshaft from a 93 ford ranger

make sure you block the wheels and apply the e brake. it only takes the right size wrench on the back by the axle then pull it out of the transmision if you dont plug the end of your tranny all the fluid will run out
