Head gasket, if you have a V6 or a V8, can't tell which one is at fault, so both will might as well be changed.
If the leak near the maifold is oil, the valve cover gaskets are leaking.
When head gaskets are changed, all the necessary gaskets come in the gasket kit.

There has been a breach between the cooling and lubrication systems in your engine. most likely a gasket. this is not a good thing. look inside your oil fill cap and see if there is frothy antifreeze there, another bad sign. you need to get a repair ASAP.

SOUNDS LIKE THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET IS LEAKING OIL INTO THE COOLANT, SEAL THE MANIFOLD 1ST THEN SEE IF THIS PROBLEM STOPS.

    Had this very same thing happen, it was the water cooled oil cooler that was leaking. It was very expensive to repair properly. They will most likely have to replace all the water hoses as well as the radiator and heater core, pretty much any thing that has oil contamination. I think they had to pull the motor to change the oil cooler since its on the back of the motor just above the trans bell housing. Anyway the dealer was the only shop I could find to do the repair and it cost me about $2300

I had a 2000 malibu 3.1 and the manifold gasket was leaking. Model years affected, 97-04. Check the recovery coolant tank and if it looks like a milk shake instead of coolant, then you have a bad intake manifold gasket. I replaced mine a few years ago and all was fine. Engines affected are the 2.4-3.1-and 3.5, look very carefully around the intake manifold and you will see it if its leaking! operating the engine with a coolant/oil mix can result in internal engine damage. Replacing the intake manifold gasket should correct these leaks. Because oil will mix with coolant if gasket is bad. Hope this helps you out! Good-Day!

My 2008 Chevy uplander engine light on and the code shows for cam shaft sensor and intake manifold what I do


The intake code means its leaking from the intake,bad gaskets, or a vacuum leak. check for bad gaskets on intake manifold. You can tell by putting a bit of oil around the maifold. if it is leaking the engine will flair up. To check this, External leak-- Coolant seeps through the broken intake manifold gasket to the outside of the engine. If its bad enough you will see coolant dripping from gasket. Coolant seeps through the damaged gasket to the inside of the engine, mixing with motor oil. If you suspect an internal leak, check your oil dipstick. Or if you have a substance under oil filler cap that looks like a milkshake, Oil is mixing with coolant. this means intake gaskets are bad, Now for the camshaft sensor, If you have a manifold leak. this could be giving you a false camshaft reading! Because, If sensor is bad vehicle will not start unless theres a wire problem. Symtoms of a bad sensor are--- engine sputtering, poor acceleration, stalling/inability to start. HopeI helped you out! What does it mean if there is oil in my coolant reservoir


oil too low!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! have some change your oil & filter immediately !!! drain radiator & coolant reservoir , refill w/ fresh 50/50 coolant , white smoke is not exactly a good thing ! it could mean coolant is mixing w/ oil , because of a possible leak from a bad gasket either from intake manifold or head gasket !!! water pump would not cause this ! I would bet on a gasket leak given the age of the car . 2000 ! 13 years old, how was it maintained, intake gaskets are cheaply made, head gaskets are made well ! so, my bet, goes to the intake manifold gasket !!!!!!good luck kristle !

freeze plugs are normally located on the side of the engine block. check coolant hoses that r running close to intake manifold, if u have coolant in ur oil, or oilin ur radiator then u have head or head gasket problems.

Vehicles: Any with the above symptoms

A cracked cylinder block will cause either:
(a) motor oil contamination of engine coolant
(b) coolant contamination of motor oil
(c) white exhaust smoke, due to coolant seeping into one or more cylinders.
(d) more than one of the above
(e) all of the above

Oil infiltrating into coolant is easy to see - drain some coolant out through the pepcock at the bottom of the radiator, and place it into a styrofoam coffee cup. Oil droplets floating on top of the green (or orange) coolant are easily seen. Or visualize oil by looking into the top of the radiator through the radiator cap.
Coolant infiltrating into and mixing with motor oil will permanently damage the engine (seizing it up through loss of lubrication), and must be prevented.
A leak from above the front suspension is, as physicians like to put it, "nonspecific", with the most likely cause a water pump seal or hose/hose connection.
A leak from near the fire wall will usually be a heater core hose, or hose connection.
A coolant leak on the same side of the engine as the water pump is a leaking water pump or water pump seal until proven otherwise.

To rule out everythng else, here's the 1999 Honda CR-V Troubleshooting Guide for Coolant Loss/Coolant Leaking:

Priority Action Part Type Cause
1 Inspect Water Pump - Worn, Cracked or Leaking Water Pump, or Water Pump gasket.
2 Inspect Head Gasket - Leaking Head Gasket.
3 Inspect Radiator - Leaking Radiator Hose(s).
4 Inspect Radiator Cap - Worn or Damaged Radiator Cap.
5 Inspect Radiator Hose - Ruptured, Cracked or Leaking Radiator Hose.
6 Inspect Freeze Plug - Leaking Freeze Plug(s).
7 Inspect Intake Manifold Gasket - Leaking, Worn, or Damaged Intake Manifold Gasket.
8 Inspect Water Outlet - Cracked, Leaking or Damaged Water Outlet.
9 Inspect Heater Control Valve - Leaking or Faulty Heater Control Valve.
10 Inspect Radiator Drain Pepcock - Loose, Damaged, or Faulty Radiator Drain Pepcock, or Pepcock O-ring.
11 Inspect Engine (DOMESTIC ONLY) - Cracked Cylinder Block Leaking Coolant into at least one Cylinder, causing white exhaust smoke.

I will assume as usual that it has the 5.7L engine. The common cause for a coolant leak in these truck are the intake manifold. It either leaks externally or internally or both this is a common problem with this engine. You have to replace the intake gaskets. This a fairly big job. First check your engine oil if the level has risen and if the oil smells like anti freeze or looks like a milkshake kinda foamy then the chances are good that your intake is leaking.If all else fails you will have to do a coolant pressure test and you will seee the leak probably.It could also be your cylinder head gaskets but the most likely cause is the intake gasket. $100.00 for the gasket kit and about 5-6 labour. Change your oil & filter before you start it after you replace the gaskets. Then if your leak goes away change your oil & filter again about a week later to ensure you get all the coolant out of the engine oil this is very harmfull to the bearings in the engine.

Leaking coolant somewhere below after car is warm and shut off can not find,recently replaced water pump, and it is not the radiator


Does this vehicle have a 3.1 or 3.4L motor. If so they commonly have intake manifold gaskets failures. This leads to coolant leaking, usually at the corners of the intake manifold and in some instances leaking into the oil. Look for signs of coolant leaking at the corners of the intake manifold and check the engine oil for coolant.

Thick blue smoke. no oil leaks new spark plugs and spark plug wires. checked all cylenders cant figure out why its smoking.


Hi! Chris, There are many causes of oil burning or exhaust smoke. There are three different causes of normal oil burning, 1; worn valve guides (smoking during deceleration), 2; worn cylinders and piston rings (smoking during acceleration), 3; split or worn out valve seal, or damaged intake manifold gasket (smoking all the time). Of course there are several variables in this equation. Sometimes coolant can also get into a cylinder and cause a blueish smoke. If you remove the spark plugs and use a pressure pump on the coolant system (radiator), coolant should leak into the intake manifold or cylinder. Coolant leaking into the intake manifold will leak into several cylinder through the valves. So, what year and how many miles are on the Jaguar?
