Question about 2003 Pontiac Grand Am

1 Answer

Washed my car engine yesterday, took a short drive and it shutoff, started it and it shutdown again, I thought it might be wet, tried drying engine ignition components with heatgun, nothing. Checked fuel pump relay and fuse, OK. Next morning I turned the key on and could hear the fuel pump, it started a couple of times but now I can't hear the pump, and it won't start, so I would like to know where the pump is, on the frame or in the tank.

Your fuel pump is in the tank. It is a combination pump/ tank sending unit.

A couple of thoughts come to mind, do you have an aftermarket alarm? If you do it may to be reprogrammed due to the battery being disconnected. The other thought i have, is if the ecu got wet internally from the rain, it could be damaged. Check and see if its wet around the area where the ecu is, hopefully its not, because i hate it when a module or ecu gets wet . Goodluck

Van won't start after washing

I'm not sure about the codes, but I can tell you to NEVER wash your motor with an up hill spray,, chances are you got the plugs wet, and inside the plug caps, take them off and use a high prssure air stream to dry them out

Thanks, Terry

Car does not shift to 1st gear after being flooded.

Since you said that you drove through water paddle surely water splashed into the engine compartment, where the main wiring plug of the automatic gear box is. You c\n find it easy is between the radiator fan and the gear box on the top of the gear box. Disconnect it and use a contact cleaner spray by spraying into the connectors both faces.

My car doesnt start after i wet under the hood

Keep the hood up, maybe blow a fan on it. You probably wet the wrong thing or connection. Rule of thumb, keep engine running while spraying it, and take for a small highway drive afterward to dry it out.

I took my 2001 police interceptor too the carwash and washed off the motor and and I left the check engine light came on and the car died now it starts but it shuts right off

you got the electrical system suppose to cover alternator, cover the ignition coils and the under hood fuse and relay box.if not water will short out ignition and electrical system.try to dry wipe some of the water up using paper towers on ignition coils and fuse and relay box.if water got in alternator it will short out voltage regulator.

Washed engine, car won't start. turns over with ease but won't fire. plugs and wires seem fine. could i have gotten somthing electrical wet and if so what?

You probably got something wet, or you may have knocked something loose (especially if you poser-washed it). Let it sit for 24 hours to dry out, then try starting it again. If it still doesn't start, you probably broke something, and its time to start trying to figure out what.

When engine wiring gets wet it won't start. I had an old Mustang that I had to remove the distributor cap and dry it with a hair dryer every time it rained real hard. I am thinking it will start after enough time has gone by-I had a car get flooded twice, and first time it took 3 weeks before it would start.
