Question about 2002 Cadillac Escalade

1 Answer

I have a 2002 Cadillac Escalade (2 wheel drive) with about 140,000 miles ...still looks and runs great. I am leaving in 2 weeks for a road trip from California to Maine and back ...about 7000 miles and wondering what service/maintenance items I should address before I leave. I had a transmission service in Sept of '09 and I had the coolant/radiator systems serviced in Jan of this year.... any recommendations for what I should do??? At my last service the service writer said I needed a rear pinion seal replaced???

Hi i take it your question is regarding what kind of things to check and service so that your car is going to make the journey. follow this list for things you should check to ensure its running its best and going to keep running at its best.

1. check all levels such as coolant, oil, power steering fluid, brake fluid, washer bottle. ensure all are topped up to their maximum.
2. check tyres for signs of ware or anything sticking in them like nails then check tyre pressures are correct doing this will ensure you not using more fuel than you need to.
3. if your air filter has not been changed in last 6 months then it would be best to get this changed.
4. check all lights are working correctly.
5. jack the front wheels off the floor and put the car on alxe stands then put a crowbar under each tyre and lift the tyre up and down using the bar and see if their is any play, you may need someone to do this for you so that you can get underneath and check the ball joints for execive play their should be slight play but not loads if you notice a lot of play then look at the ball joints and see witch one has to much play and get replaced if needed.
6. you need to get this rear pinion seal replace to ensure its not leaking and this could cause problems with lack of lubricant.
7. check the front brake disks for any grooves cut into them and also look at the pads and see if they are low or not if they are low then it may be worth getting the brakes replaced.
other than those few items you should have no problems just make sure all the top ups are done and tyres checked it may also be worth buying a fuel line cleaner you can buy this from most filling station or car spares shops, what it is a small bottle of fluid that you pour into the tank just make sure you buy correct type ie petrol or diesel a good brand is called Red X using this product will ensure you whole fuel system is clean and free from any contaminents this also ensures your engine is running at its best and it also improves mpg so it saves you money in the long term.

let me know if you need further assistance ok.

This sounds to me like the antitheft security system. If the computer doesn't read the transponder frequency coming from the key, it goes into anti theft and shuts down the starter and/or the injectors. If it starts for 1 to 5 seconds and then shuts down, its probably this. Read up about this on this link, it gives you symptoms and causes, plus a "do it yourself" solution if you decide that this is the problem. I've been dealing in GM vats-passlock-passkey securities for quite a while now. From your description, I'd guess this is the issue.

Air Compressor Motor Going Off?

What is probably going on is the air suspension has a leak so the compressor is breaking down. So it will run at odd times trying to make up for the times it can not run. What you need to do is look for a conversion kit. The conversion will stop all problems that you are having now and you will never have to worry about it again. I would recommend They have great prices and there kits are guaranteed to last the life of the car.

I hope I was of some help

Good Luck!!!

2002 Cadillac Escalade Needs New Transmission

If the vehicle fits your needs, and it still looks good 140,000 miles is only a number. If you love it, consider the 4000 an investment . A 2009 Escalade is surely going to cost a few bucks more :)). As far as what might break next, its a piece of machinery. Seems like you stay on top of things, As far as whether you should go to the dealer. It is electronically controlled. Bring to someone who knows what they are doing. The grief with a sub-par repair along with a large expense, is real tough to deal with. I say stick with the dealer. Good Warranty
