HI:
That is usually caused by a head gasket or intake manifold leak. Your mechanic should be able to give you a rough idea as to what it will take to fix the problem, but it isn't a casual home mechanic's job, but a little bit of remove and replacing parts to get to the problem.

If it looks like light milk chocolate then its engine oil.
and then that means the head gasket is leaking oil into the coolant chamber.

if theres any orange or red color to it then the radiator is leaking tranny fluid into the coolant and then the radiator would be the troubles.

Oil gauge not moving and no problem from 1997 mercury truck

have the oil pressure checked with a mechanical gauge to ensure that there is no problem that will damage the engine. If not then check the wiring to the oil sender unit or replace the oil sender unit.

1999 lumina 3.0 is using transmission fluid but has no leak, what is the problem?

Some transmissions modulator valve is operated by vacuum from the engine and if it malfunctions the fluid can be pulled to the engine and burned with the fuel. I have seen a transmission completely drained and destroyed without the driver ever noticing anything. You probably need a mechanic to determine this.

Make sure there is not an oily mixture in your radiator where it could be leaking from the transmission line as it goes through the radiator for cooling.

Going through a lot of coolant, oil level is high

Drain the engine oil and see if there is coolant in it. Likely there is. If coolant is in the oil there is likely a blown head gasket or intake gasket. Do not run the engine or you will damage the engine bearings. A compression test, radiator pressure test, hydrocarbon test or cylinder leak down test (or a combination of those) will generally verify where the problem is.

Possible engine problem

Not saying this is the answer but this has happen to me.

If you have the 3.1engine. My dip stick was not secured a the way down which was causing a spraying issue all over my fan.

Not sure if there is a Oil cooling hose. Just double check the Dip stick place a oring around it to hold it down if you cant keep it secure

On a 1997 chevy lumina car how do you clear the check engine light

Turn key ignition forward but do not start engine. Pump gas pedal fully 3 times then engine light will start flashing. Do not pump gas pedal short quick pumps. After light is flashing turn ignition off then start engine. The check engine will reset it's self.
