This is not to bad, remove the wheel, then remove the caliper by removing the two bolts on the back, next remove the caliper bracket by removing the two rear bolts that hold it to spindle, then slide rotor off, you may have to hit center area of rotor with a hammer to break it free, now use an old pad placed against the caliper piston and use a c clamp to push piston all the way in,next is to clean caliper braket where pads sit apply a little lube to help pads slide and then reverse directions to put back together, heres a couple of diagrams to help, hope this helps.how do i replace the brakes and rotors on my 1998 - b1aeba7.jpgc54fbe1.jpg

Why does my 1998 Cadillac Deville make the steering wheel shake when I brake at fast speeds ? It is very bad and would like to have repaired.

Your front rotors are warped. If they are in good shape and thick enough they may be able to turn them and make them true again.

If they are in bad shape or to thin they will need to be replaced. Check the amount of brake pad left while you are checking the rotors. If the pads are 2-4 mm they are ready to be replaced.

It also won't hurt to check the calipers to make sure the pistons move freely and check the caliper slides to make sure they are not frozen as well.

My 2004 cadillac deville is shaking in a low idle why is that

Does it occur when you apply the brakes? A warped rotor will cause a shake or shutter (primarily felt in the steering wheel and brake pedal) when the brake are applied. Most shops no longer resurface brake rotors any longer because of the reduced prices for a new replacement rotor, but resurfacing a rotor will bring the rotor true (even no wobble) and take away any brake shimmy or shaking.

First time ever having a car and need to know wat all do i need to do a full tune up to my 1998 cadillac deville

change the oil and filter, check or replace the air filter, remove plugs and replace if necessary, look at plug wires, they may havfe a date stamped on them that say '98' or '99'-if they do, replace then, remove the distributor cap and look inside, if the terminals show any signs of oxidation, replace it and replace the rotor. Clean the throttle body with THROTTLE BODY CLEANER (do not use carb cleaner), and check all fluids-brake fluid, antifreeze, power steering fluid and transmission fluid. It is not a bad idea to replace any or all of these items, for the brake fluid and power steering tanks, you can use a clean turkey baster to drain what you can get out and refill with quality fluids, and do a service on the trans-messy, but not hard to do and well worth it since it keeps the trans cooler. You could remove the battery cables and thoroughly clean the terminals and posts, and pull the wheels and eyeball the brakes to see if the rotors are smooth and free of cracks/flaws and the pads have sufficent thickness. check air in the tires, clean the engine gently with Spray Nine and an easy flow of water, dry it off-write down all that you did including mileage and dates-all of these things will make your Caddy last.

What kind of brakes are on my 1998 Cadillac Seville SLS? Are there disc brakes in front and back? or does it have drum brakes in the back?

Both, actually. In the front, disks.
In the rear the main braking is a similar disk, and much smaller is a drum, essentially in the hub area of the disk rotor. In there are cute little drum breaks that are the emergency or parking brake. Do inspect and adjust them, while you are in there.
Familiarize the feel and effectiveness of the parking brake before you start...so you will know.

Squeekking around back driver tire

Hello; The wear indicator on the brake pad may be contacting the rotor and making the noise. You need to remove the left rear wheel and look at the thickness of the brake pad. Thank you

1998 cadillac deville de elegance replaced battery 3 times in 2 months

Are you buying junk batteries? if not, why replace them, why not recharge them, and find out what is drawing on the battery? There are many possibilities. Find a qualified repair shop and have them test for a battery draw.

Brakes are mushy

If your brake fluid level is good, it could be...
rusty rotors, or brake pads that are bound up or rusted to the caliper bracket. (They need to be able to float) Just some ideas!

Brakes are scrubbing terribly. it takes a little

Your brake pads are worn out. Take it in for repair immediately. Otherwise you will ruin the rotors and have to also replace them. If you DIY, replace pads on both front wheels. Look at the rotors and if they are scratched or scored have them turned at a auto machine shop. They will tell you if they need replacing.
