test the IAC (Idle Air Control) valve by removing it from the throttle body with the wiring harness connected, turn key to 'ON' position without starting the engine, if the valve moves, it's good, if it doesn't, replace the IAC motor/valve. Hope this helps

92 chevy lumina,car starts but wont idle.overFlow

If you see bubbles in your overflow tank, it is either overheating or (more probably) it has a blown head gasket. How long after engine cold start do the bubbles show?
A compression test could tell you more about the head gasket condition. You can also have the coolant tested against CO2 contamination.
Sometimes you can see oil on the surface of the coolant in the overflow tank when the head gasket is blown (check this with cold engine).

What number range should i have for a good compression test on the cylinders of my 1996 Chevy Lumina 3.1 liter v6?

Hi anything above 850 is good but around 1250 to 1400 is where u should be.other problems that cause low compression is worn comp. rings, bent or burnt valves.to check head gasket u should rather do a combustion test, most radiator shops have the test.good luck.

Hello, if you are losing coolant as you say than the most probable place is through your head and into your exhaust system, it is highly likely you have a cracked head or a major head gasket leak. The only other place it can go is if you have a automatic vehicle with the cooler on the bottom of the radiator tank (crack between two tanks), it will go straight into your transmission, you can tell if the transmission oil is overfull and watery (thin and whitish).

1996 Chevy Lumina Sedan Whining noise from engine

The pattern you describe is consistent with an alternator going bad. Maybe the fields are already rubbing together. Test it this way: Start the car and leave on idle, when the whine is worse, then start using up electricity, by increasing the demand. Turn on AC, then lights, then full blower and then high beams. If there is a change in the whine, then either alternator or voltage regulator is the culprit. When a compressor pulley bearing is bad, noise shifts just by turning AC on and off.
