First check for any disconnected vacuum hoses. If good, have the car scanned at a local auto parts store to see if any pending codes are present. There may be a problem with the idle air control motor or the throttle position sensor.

Nissan maxima 1994 rough idle

Start with one bottle of yellow HEET dry gas to rule out moisture in fuel tank.
=============
Check your battery age tag. Most battery can last up to 48 months.
An aged/old battery will cause sign problem to ECU.
=============
Next item to check is idle air control motor.
Engine on and all electrical off
Next turn on ALL electrical items at the same time.
high beams,radio,A/C,fan at full blast
An IAC that can not raise the idle will cause the problem you are encountering.

Please start with HEET and rule out aged battery first.
IAC is expensive component to replace.

Iddle and Throttle problem!

had the same problem with the same year model, changed the idle position sensor, did not fix problem. took it to dealer because I was told that it had to have an idle relearn program ran on it, it didn't take and the dealer toldme that I need a ECM (engine control module) basically a new computer and it would cost with labor about 1100.00 dollars.

My nissan maxima will not warm up inside when it is started and left to idle. will warm up if drove.

this is because your vehical is heated by hot coolant flowing through a small radiator the blower motor blows air through this and out your vents and gives u heat but unless you drive your vehical the coolant will not build heat for quite a period of time there for your interior will not warm up as quick

Idle air control valves short out all the time on these models. You can ohm the motor to check it, but the down side to a shorted iac valve is that it shorts out the ecm if not repaired quickly. when the valve shorts, 12 volts is supplied directly to the ecm and burns the circuit board. The other option is the air flow meter, this is also a very common problem but typically a p0171/p0174 would be stored in self diag.

Uneven oe irregular idle speed when warm

If the car has the original PCV valve, it's overdue for replacement. If not, PCV valves are inexpensive and easy to replace, therefore you can give it a try. However, a faulty valve and accompanying vacuum issues will usually cause a rolling, or somewhat rough idle. Once tested and eliminated or replaced, if you still have a low idle condition continue reading.

The Idle Air Control motor (inside the throttle body) controls idle using a variety of inputs through the Powertrain Control Module. Rough idle and stalling most often occur when the idle speed drops below normal rpm. This can be caused by an issue with any one of the inputs which control idle through the PCM or a problem with the Idle Air Control motor. Let me know how things work out for you on this. Good luck.
