Question about 1995 GMC Jimmy

1 Answer

My 95 jimmy just stops running at hwy speed, pull over turn off and start right back up. I heard that the coilpacks get too hot and conk out. maybe that is why it runs cool (like 70 c) . It has 330,000 km and, bought used at 320,000. other than that the 4.3 vortec doesn't miss a beat. thanks.

When it stopped running did it surge, sputter, or backfire, or was it like turning off the ignition?

Maybe just loosing fuel pressure at hogher revs, try replacing the filter first, cheap diagnosis

Service light starts to blink and starts running on 3 cylinders. Stop and turn the power off, restart and okay for a while.

Most likely a misfire due to a bad coilpack. There are four of these, one for each cylinder, sitting right on top of your valve cover and held down by a 10mm bolt. If you have access to a scan tool, that should show you which one is bad. Otherwise, when it runs on three cylinders, try unplugging connectors to the coil packs one at a time. If you unplug a good one, the engine should stall. If you unplug one and there is no change, you have found the bad coilpack. Simply remove the connector and 10mm bolt and pull coilpack out. They can be purchased on eBay for around $20 or auto parts stores for $60-$80.

I turned off my 95 Lebaron GTC for 5 minutes to run into the store and when I came out it didn't start. The engine didn't even crank. The only thing I heard was the buzzing of the fuel pump. I left it...

You may have a faulty starter. when the starter was hot from the engine it would not start after leaving overnight the starter cooled and then started now starter has quit all together the electric fuel pump noise is normal because the fuel pump will turn on while cranking.

Runs for 1-2 mins then conks out; like it ran out of gas. Fuel pump did run on the turn of the key; but that all.

You did change the fuel filter right? Need to also check the fuel pressure to make sure your fuel pump is putting out the right pressure.

Running rough - hesitant

you may also want to consider that the coil pack is failing... i remember when my windstar coilpack failed i had an awful time just getting up a small hill... can't recall if it shuddered tho.

is it the 4.3 vortec or the 2.8 liter? and is there any check engine lights on? if no light then its more likley to be the throttle boddy is dirty and needs clean out you can buy spray and spray it while idleing or take it off and clean it with a tooth brush and kerosene....
