Question about 1997 Oldsmobile Achieva
While the car is cool or cold and parked on level ground check both your oil and antifreeze levels. This is best done before the car has been started for the first time of the day as all oil should have returned to the oil pan.NEVER open a hot radiator.
While you are checking the levels, carefully take a look at the radiator cap, antifreeze and the oil on the dipstick. If you have a milky color substance at any of the locations chances are you will need a need gasket replaced.
If all looks good during your check and even if you see a problem it is advisable to have your cooling system pressure tested and if the problem continues then a pressure test on the lubrication system.
Hope this helps.
