check soft plugs in the back of the engine block (also called freeze plugs) which are there for the purpose of expansion in cases of freezing solid in order to prevent the engine block from cracking under the pressure of freezing. its not a costly repair if you can get to the plug to replace it yourself ? if not get it to a shop pronto because soon the temps outdoors will increase causing overheating of the engine to occur without proper coolant capacity. Good Luck and i hope this helps you.

Freeze plup location

Back of engine, eh? The freeze plugs (3, maybe 4 on that back side) will be on the engine block, below the cylinder head, and below where the exhaust manifold mounts up. Look in back of the exhaust manifold for the plugs. Check for indication of leaking, it should be evident. If you have an engine block heater installed in one of the freeze plug holes, that may have loosened and started leaking. If you find a plug that needs replaced, put a stout screwdriver or punch on the freezeplug, not at the center of plug but to the edge, and whack it good. That edge will go in and the other side will stick out- grab with pliers and remove. Clean the area well to remove rust and scale where freezeplug seals in the block. It will be hard, possibly, to put in a new freeze plug with everything in the way. So buy a rubber expansion plug at the parts store-easy to install, just put a wrench on it to tighten. Take your old freezeplug with you to get the right sized expansion plug.
Good luck, hope you find it.

An expansion plug located in the side of an engine block that is supposed to protect the block against freeze damage. Water expands when it turns to ice, and if the coolant doesn't have enough antifreeze protection it can freeze and crack the etc

Where are the freee plugs located on a 2002 dodge stratus?

Both sides, front, and back of the block. It's not a job to be taken lightly. If by any chance you can happen to see one. Look for an indentation on the engine block under the exhaust manifold. Looks king of like the inside of a baby food jar lid. Since you have a transverse (sideways) engine. Front and back are relative, meaning...the front of the engine is on the passenger's side, and the back of the engine (driver's side) is mated to the transmission. If you are able to locate the plug(s) that is/are leaking and remove it/them. They can be replaced with expansion freeze plugs that go in the hole and tighten with a wrench. The function of the freeze plug is to release pressure to from freezing. If an improper coolant mixture is in the engine and the coolant (antifreeze) happens to freeze. The plug pops out to diminish the chances of the engine block cracking. They are however prone to rust under certain circumstances.

I hope this helped.

Air cond freezing up after twenty minutes running otherwise is cold

Check for a plugged drain tube outside on the firewall or in that area opposite your heater & AC. Clear it out with piece of wire or similar to remove any debris. Be careful not to poke too hard or deep & puncture heater core or damage any other part. You can usually see liquid on the ground when sitting with AC on, my guess is yours is very limited now, or none at all.
