The steering shaft, that is under the hood, has a tube, within a tube, that slides back and forth,on suspension, this shaft is worn out,and will have to be replaced, the dealer is the only one who has the replacement part, and it is supposed to correct the problem.

You will have to disconnect the wobble joint, and I believe just pull it out,But getting to it is the fun,so go for it,I thinking maybe the inner fender has to come out,but have not done one like yours exactly,so I will not tell you it is easy, the whole job.

What yr is this truck? Does it have tilt steering? If it is an older truck it may be better to replace the steering column rather then trying to repair it. Is there a noticeable amount of play in the wheel? If this is a newer truck (newer then 2002) you may have nothing wrong with it. Some of the newer trucks have a real close set up and can rattle when you turn left or right or hit bumps. But you need to inspect the steering column. Check for play at the wheel and check for play under the hood too.

Knocking noise around the front passenger wheel area!?

Do you feel it in the steering wheel? if so it could be the intermediate steering shaft. If not it could be a sway bar link or bushing.

Vibration coming from front axle when coming to a stop it gets worse, brakes are good , maybe cv joint?

if you feel the pulsation in brake pedal when stopping. its a warped brake rotor thats causing it. for bad cv joint symtoms--- Unusual noises when making turns. As you are driving on the road and you make a turn at the corner, if you start hearing unusual sounds coming from under the car then this is one of the symptoms of a bad CV joint. These noises will sound like something is clicking beneath the car every time you turn the steering wheel. Evidence of a damaged boot. Steering wheel feels heavier. The steering wheel will start to feel tighter and heavier and you can hardly make simple turns to the left or right. In severe cases you might even feel heavy vibrations like you are driving down a rocky road.

Why is my steering wheel loose? Does not turn well with tires and theirs a knocking sound whenever I turn the wheel.

I would not recommend driving this until it gets checked out, based on what you're saying.
That vehicle should have power steering. Check to make sure it has sufficient power steering fluid in the reservoir.
If there's a knocking sound when you turn, it could be a problem within either the steering mechanism or any number of things that warrant getting checked out.
It's not fun going down the road in a vehicle that size, and having your steering go out completely on you.

Humming sound above thirty kms coming from under the engine. can be felt in gas pedal but not in steering wheel or brake pedal. sound increases with speed not rpm's

may be a wheel bearing.. when driving down the road try slightly turning your steering wheel back and forth like your changing lanes..if the pitch of the noise changes theres a good chance thats your problem.

I have a 2008 Ford Fusion, and have a clunking noise in my front end. It only occurs when I apply the breaks at a slow speed, usually when turning around in a driveway or parkinglot. I dont hear the noise...

I have a 2006 Mazda 6 wagon - same car under the skin as your fusion. If you have a telescoping steering wheel, it might be that the grease they used for the steering column is substandard. I just fixed my clunky steering by releasing the telescoping/tilt lever and pushing the steering wheel in and out a few times (i repeated twice after 2 short test drives with the problem improving each time); this eliminated the noise. Blogs for the Mazda 6 indicated this. Give it a try as it's a free fix. If the problem comes back, and some indicate it will, the dealer may need to relubricate the steering column with a better grease. This is the fix for the Mazda6.

Something knocking in a steering system on my 98 civic

Suspect worn outer cv joint. Check the boot for any tears, damage or leaking grease. If these are present your cv joint will fail soon if it hasn't already. If you put the car into reverse and turn the wheels to a hard lock a bad cv joint will make a popping grinding type sound. Try left and right turns when doing this test.

I HAVE A KNOCKING NOISE THAT COMES FROM THE WHEEL AREA BUT TRAVELS UP TO THE STEERING WHEEL...AND THE CAR WONDERS ALL OVER THE ROAD WHILE DRIVING

Hi DAVIDHAMMER,
My name is Dennis
and I'm sorry to tell you this but you should check your constant velocity universal joint in the front wheel for wear or failure. If this knocking gets severe that is more noticeable when you turn your front wheels to the far end of travel you may have an expensive problem and this is normally fixed at the dealership.
please rate the solution because i will learn from your rating. Thank you

1996 Buick Regal, 96k miles - Recent purchase - doesn't seem right.

Will your 'friend' take it back? 1 prob, likely a vaccum leak at the intake. 2 prob, at 'stopping'?? Brake pads. Stopped, good question. 3 prob, either the plastic cover or the horn pin under the steering wheel. 4 prob, This sounds like the exhaust 02 sensor is acting up. 5 prob, shock bushings or rubbers mounts on sway bar. Or the top bearing on a strut. 6 prob, Fixing the past probs 'may' solve this? 7 prob, Just live with this! You have enough on you plate already! Frankster016
