What is the rear diff fliud like? Is it full? Have you inspected the brakes, and if so, what have you found. As far as the u-joints go, get under the vehicle and see if you have free play in the joint area. Grab hold of the drive shaft and turn it back and forth (engine off of course and parking brake applied), and see if there is excessive play. Is there evidence of rusty coloration around the caps of the u-joints? Hard to say what the exact cause is from a chat.

Seems that the 9.25 rear end has a problem with a retaining clip that breaks and lets the pinion and cluches lose to grind away ...sure you have found this out by now .....mine just gernaded 9/02/10...lookin at $1500.00 to fix

I have a 1999 dodge 1500 van 318cid with a similar noise. Mine sounds like rubber on metal when turning, Usually from a stop. What I've found is the rear end has clutch plates on each shaft and its supposedly them chattering. I drained my fluid cleaned out the shavings (discovered the small pinion gears worn on shaft pin thingy and a little sloppy, you could hear them when slowing down) I know I need to replace but I added the 7 oz limited slip oil additive(supposed to cure sticking clutch plates) and fresh oil. seamed to work for a day but squeak noise has come back. I'm not sure if adding more additive would make a difference or not but they say not to add too much. I'll order new gears and see if that helps any and will likely add more additive if not. Good luck!

Typically the squealing sound will come from the brakes. Over time rust forms on the drums and the rotors and can make the noise. It will come from the rust rubbing against the brake pads or shoes. Or it could be that the rust is rubbing against the backing plate.
If you are talking about a different type of noise please let me know.

Well if you hear the noise only in turns, going forward and backwards then I would look into the condition of the bearings.
If you have bad u-joints I would think that you would hear the sound all the time, not just in turns.

ABS and Brake warning lights intermittent may be caused by a failing wheel speed sensor(ABS Sensor) and /or its connector. You may have one on each wheel hub(4WD) or if 2WD, a sensor may be on the rear axle differential center.

2003 dodge ram 1500 4x4,vibration rear wheels ,when taking off in a slow turn, something in the rear end ,its not the brakes, something with the pinion gear i think, how do i fix it

Check your u-joints first. If it is not the u-joint, then it is probably the yoke. Take the driveshaft off/out and on the yoke you will see a nut, make sure that it is tight. You will want to drain and refill your rear end gear oil as well.

95 dodge 2500 4x4 front axle clicks in 2wd not 4wd when engaged

Do you have automatic locking hubs? Do you need to turn hubs on wheels in order to have 4 wheel drive work? If all you do to get in 4wd is move shifter, then you have automatic locking hubs. The clicking indicates that the hubs are not fully disingaging. To check, block rear wheels, jack front up, and turn tire. the axle should not be turning...if it is, hub is still ingaged....time for new hubs.....if hubs are bad, and you want to save money, you can purchase a set of manual hubs made by (WARN)...its more than half the cost, but you will have to turn hubs to lock and unlock manually. Note...you still need to use the gear selector to put and take out 4wd.

Is there a code or id feature that helps me determine if my 2003 durango has 4 wheel abs?

Turn the wheel all they way to the left. Look in behind the driver side tire at the back of the hub assebly. If there is a wire runnning down into the hub (not the brake line. This wire will be covered with a plastic protector for the wire) you have four wheel abs. The same goes for the rear tires. If you look at the rear wheels there will be the same type of wire running into the back of the brake housing cover.

Front end noise

It sound like a wheel joint. They are u-joints right behind the brake rotors. If you had one replaced, the other one might have went bad. Or the new one might be junk.

First just crawl under it and grab your axles and see if you can shake them and get any movement from either of them this will tell you if you have a loose CV joint or not .. thanks Jerry holler if you need more .
