Seville With 4.6L Engine
On some models, the generator is water-cooled. When this is the case, the repair procedure is as follows:
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the accessory drive belt.
  3. Drain and recycle the engine coolant.
  4. Remove the radiator.
NOTE If your vehicle is equipped with air conditioning, refer to the information regarding the implications of servicing your A/C system yourself. Only an MVAC-trained, EPA-certified, automotive technician should service the A/C system or its components.
  1. Remove the A/C condenser.
  2. Raise and safely support the vehicle securely.
  3. Disconnect the coolant inlet and outlet hoses from the generator.
  4. Detach the electrical connections from the generator. The regulator, the battery output, and the heated windshield (if equipped) will need to be unplugged.
  5. Remove the generator fasteners from the generator.
  6. Remove the generator from the vehicle.
To install:

SOURCE: how to install

first, you will have to buy the special water pump removal tool available at most auto part stores for about $35. Next, drain the cooling system from the radiator and remove the upper & lower radiator hoses. At the lower radiator hose connection, there is a housing with 5 bolts. (before you go that far, remove the drive belt off of the water pump pulley by inserting a 1/4" ratchet into the tensioner to remove the belt)

Remove those 5 bolts and separate the housing. You now have access the the water pump. With the special tool & a 1/2" ratchet or breaker bar, turn clockwise to remove the water pump. The remainder of the steps is the reverse of removal. Make sure you use a new o-ring on the new water pump and put RTV sealant on the housing to prevent leaks. While you're at it, it's not a bad idea to replace your thermostat and hoses to make it a complete, thororugh job.

Can i remove the motor from a 1997 cadillac seville from the top

It would probably be easier to remove the engine and transaxle from the bottom but I don't see why you couldn't take just the engine out from the top after removing the hood and the braces.
