These aren't too bad. You have to take off the fan shroud, fan, and it's easiest to remove the radiator as well. There are only a couple of clips that hold it in. As for the fan; best way for it, is to use a special tool required to hold it while you loosen. Of course, don't forget to drain the coolant. The water pump is located inside of a housing on the front of the engine. You remove the bolts from it, and put two of them in different holes that are still in the pump, but not holes that the bolts were originally in. You'll see it when you get there. This will press the water pump OUT of the housing, and it will come out hopefully with the impeller still attached. Some of the impellers were plastic, and would break off in there. Not hard to get out, just frustrating to see. Take it out if you have the issue. Next, is to wet the rubber seal with a little antifreeze so it slides into place easy, seat it in place, and use the bolts to pull it the rest of the way in. Now put everything back together, and make sure you bleed all the air out of the system. You should notice a plastic screw on top of the radiator. You fill the radiator with coolant, and run the car only long enough to build pressure in the cooling system. You can tell by squeezing the top radiator hose. Once you have pressure, shut the car off, and open that screw on the radiator and let the air out. It may take a couple cycles of starting the engine to build pressure, but it's necessary. Always check the coolant level every time between cycles. Once you get Liquid at that screw, tighten it down, and you're done.

Where is the thermostat located in a 2001 BMW 325i? Would a bad thermostat cause the heater/air conditioner blower to not function?

The themostat is located on the front part of the engine next to the water pump (black peice of plastic with two hoses on it). If the thermostat was bad, you would have overheating issues going on.

This my sound simple but I have to ask, have you messed with the dial between the two grills over the radio? Max heat would be 3 red dots while max cold is 3 blue dots. If it's in the middle with no dots then that may be your problem.
