Inside the fuel tank..got to pull out the fuel tank..than you can pull out the fuel pump

Testimonial: "quick service highly recommened"

  • Anonymous Oct 03, 2010

I just looked at mine. Remove the back seat bottom cution by pressing the releases on each side. The wiring harness you see there goes to the fuel pump/float assembly. Four screws remove the cover plate and gives you access to the top of the tank. There is a lock ring there that holds the fuel pump assembly into the tank. Unplug the fuel lines and tap the lock ring counter clockwise to remove the pump. Cautions: This is a gas tank and gas is VERY FLAMABLE!! Do not do this with a full tank of gas or gas will leak out as soon as you release the lock ring.

SOURCE: sound in the fuel pump

Hello,
A normal /new fuel pump makes very little noise when the ignition switch is turned on but a faulty fuel pump -although it may still maybe working ok for now it does get very noisey at the end of its life and may quit working at any time so it would be wise to figure out your alternatives ahead of it's usually untimely demise.

Good Luck!

SOURCE: changing the water pump on a ford escort 1997

2.0L Engine
SOHC ENGINE
See Figure 8

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise the car and support it with safety stands.
CAUTION Never open, service or drain the radiator or cooling system when hot; serious burns can occur from the steam and hot coolant. Also, when draining engine coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted to ethylene glycol antifreeze and could drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantities. Always drain coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or is several years old.
  1. Drain and recycle the engine coolant.
  2. Remove the timing belt.
  3. Unfasten the timing belt tensioner bolt and remove the tensioner.
  4. Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the water pump.
  5. Lower the car and disconnect the heater hose from the water pump.
  6. Unfasten the three bolts and one stud from the water pump.
  7. Remove the water pump.

To install:

WARNING Do not use any abrasive grinding discs to remove gasket material. Use a plastic manual gasket scraper to remove the gasket residue. Be careful not to scratch or gouge the aluminum sealing surfaces when cleaning them.
  1. Clean the gasket surfaces thoroughly until all traces of the old gasket residue are removed. Inspect the gasket mating surfaces, both must be clean and flat.
  2. Install a new gasket and the water pump.
  3. Install the water pump bolts and stud to 15-22 ft. lbs. (20-30 Nm).
  4. Connect the heater hose to the pump.
  5. Raise the car and support it with safety stands.
  6. Connect the lower radiator hose to the pump.
  7. Install the timing belt tensioner and tighten the bolt to 15-22 ft. lbs. (20-30 Nm).
  8. Install the timing belt and lower the car.
  9. Fill the cooling system with the proper amount and mixture of coolant.
  10. Start the engine and check for leaks.

I cannot find the fuel pump relay in my 1997 Ford Escort LX, Please help.

The fuel pump relay on your vehicle is an integrated part of the Constsnt Control Relay Module (CCRM). It is located in the driver's side front of the engine compartment. You must remove the air cleaner box to get to it.

My 97 ford escort runs fine on 0 solpe roadr. but when I drive uphill it hesitated on acceleration.

It sounds like low fuel pressure to me. Possibly caused by a clogged fuel filter or a weak fuel pump (or both). I would try changing the fuel filter first.

I have a 1997 Ford Escort, and it will start but immediately cut off. You can hear the fuel pump turn on when you start it. What could be the problem?

Hello awlashun,

Try spraying starting fluid into the air box if it starts it's a good possibility that the fuel pump is bad.

If you have a fuel pressure gauge check the pressure it should be 35-45 psi.

if it doesnt start with quick start then the problem is not fuel related. You have an ignition issue like a bad crans sensor or ignition module or even possible a blown fuse if you have a ECM or ING fuse
