I went looking for a used engine for my 1990 toyota forerunner and the only engine i have found in tact so far was a 1988. Which engine years are compatible to the 1990 toyota forerunner sr5 6 cylinder.

1: wrong belt in box, last customer returned it like that.
2: clerk gave you wrong box used wrong engine table(GATES)
3: you told clear wrong and he did it wrong.
4: learn that some engines even same 1.6L displacement had 2 head types that year. or series of years.
my car here, has 3 belts sold for it, 2 are wrong, per above.
no belt brand told just 164 code (gates?)

3s-fse =1987 to 2000 year made. no car model told what can go wrong, answer ALL. that.

step one make sure both belts new and used, laid top of each other have same number of teeth and pitch. (viewed) if not WRONG belt.
OOPS? (the new belt can be touch tighter.,old belt stretched be longer or even a wreck)
some models have VVT, in the head and may change the T belt USED, no car told no year, no VVT told.

Best plugs to use are the manufacturers. Found this to be true on my Toyota 33re engine and various Fords. Also read over the years tests and reviews and they all came to the same conclusion- OEM plugs (and brake pads) work best.

I had the same problem in my 3sFE, I thought the same way you did, but it turn out to be the fan, check if there is any play in the fan, change it and your scrutching noise will be no longer there

It sounds like your power steering pump has gone out. If your resevoir has fluid and there are no power steering lines with holes in them, that would be the next option to look at. When the pump goes out the fluid cannot move throughout the tube to help give you assitance in steering. Change this pump and your power steering will be back to normal. Knowing Honda, or any other car manufacturer in the 80's, they are probably the same. The only reason for a redesign of dash midway through a given generation of a car would be for cosmetics. If they look the same and they're only one year apart, its probably the same thing. Redesigns surrounding this generation were 1986 and 1990. probably the same.
