Possibly a siezed fan, disconnect fan plug, run a wire from positive (+) battery terminal to fan and same on negitive (-) terminal, to the pins on the fan side of the plug dont touch them together while connected to battery, if fan goes it may be a coolant temp on the engine. bypass temp switch with a loop wire on to wiring harness side of the temp switch. Both fans usually only operate when a/c is on.

Why does my 2002 millenia overheat when sitting idle

Could be your cooling fan not running. While the car is moving air is being pushed through the radiator, but when the car is still the fan is there to pull air into the radiator, if the fan is not running the car will heat up while sitting but cool back off when you are going down the road.

1997 accord lx. Overheating at idle but not when moving. I hear cooling fan come on after I turn off ignition, What can it be?Should fan come on when I turn on AC?

fan not running full speed

dirt and junk packed in the radiator. up front, both if A/C

sure the fan must come on overheated. at all times.

the FSM covers the tests for that, ever seen any FSM>????

read the book or look on alldata.com

if the fan works, and the rad fins are not packed full of junk, then the RAD tubes in side are clogged, (ask for simple $20 tool that tests this)

all cars overheat , if the fan fails.

no moving means there is no air, no air and the RAD is just a useless brick. the air must flow.

it is really just a heat exhanger, coolant > air.

is the AF at 50% , usning the $2 Prestone test tool?

AF= antifreeze coolant.

2002 Mazda Milenia. Coolant level ok. In heavy traffic or at idle it runs on the hot side. Also my AC stops cooling

Troubleshoot your radiator fans. Could be the main one failed. The AC booster would have a hard time keeping engine and AC cool for more than a few mins.
Check the under hood electrical box. Fuse, relay. Possible the fan motor itself. Unplug it at the wire connector and jump 12 volts to it. No go, replace fan motor.

Over heats when it idles

Check clutch fan if you can spin it by hand freely with no resistance the clutch fan is bad.
if the clutch fan spins more than twice if you give it a good flip the clutch is bad.

Engine heats when stopped and idling , cools off when car is moving . Electric fan is blowing properly I think.

the problem sounds like it could be the fan isn't working you need to check, let the engine idle until it starts to overheat & check if the fan is working......hope this helps......cheers

Cooling fan motor is not turning on..why?

If you mean the radiator coolant fan it can have a few causes.
1) Fuses, relay
2) Faulty temperature switch
3) Bad fan

If the cause is fuses it can be bad bearings on the fan. You should be able to turn by hand, if it doesn't spin freely then you have bad bearings.

I have 2003 grand cherokee with 140000 miles that overheats at idle. as soon as i start moving again, the temp goes back to normal.

You have two fan's on your truck, 1 is a fan clutch runs with the drive belt, 2 elec fan motor, with test light and engine running at normal temp, just a little bit above 1/2 way on your temp gauge check voltage at elec. cooling fan harness if you have voltage at one of the two wire's and fan don't turn on, bad cooling fan motor, on the fan clutch after you check voltage at elec. fan motor turn engine off, with your hand spin drive belt fan if it spin's freely bad fan clutch, replace it.Also check cooling level.Hope this was very helpful

Possible solution to engine overheating

So if you cant find it, how do you know its bad? The relays are on the RF fender, above the wheel, under the hood. The electrical diagrams lists 3 relays. They are all powered by the ENG fuse and its a 15 amp fuse. The fan is powered by the COOLING FAN fuse 30 amps. Power to the fan motor is on a BLUE/BLACK, BLUE/YELLOW and BLUE/RED wires, of course the BLACK wire is ground. Its a 2 speed fan. I would check for power to the fan motor first as with a car this old, the fan motor is usually worn out. If it does have power to it,m rap on the moto,r if it attempts to wrok, the motor is worn out.

Fan runs after car shut off

You may need to replace your thermostat. This is normal for the fan to run after you turn your car off but if you say its running for 20 minutes or longer, it may mean your thermostat is stuck and causing the fan to run longer to cool off the radiator. Its a good thing for the fan to run. Heat is your enemy. I rather the fan run than no fan at all, if your car overheats, you could blow a gasket or warp your valves and its really pricey if that happens
