Trans fluid is measured by pints ! So if 2 pints are equal to quart , you only need 5 quarts if it has 3.7 6 cylinder . And 3 quarts for the 2.4 4cylinder ! You may have added 5 quarts too many .
I'd drain it from the oil pan underneath the car. Fill it back up with engine oil and a can of Seafoam, drive it around for a day or 2 then drain it again. Replace the filter each time also. Think you'll be alright if you didn't do heavy driving with it in your engine.
On 1999 Jeep Cherokee 4WD 4.0L MFI 6cyl ... With Transmission model AW4: -Service change only - 2 quarts.
- Total refill - 8.2 quarts.
With 30RH transmission: Pennzoil Multi Vehicle ATF

Yes but keep the speed down, and don't pull any thing with it until its topped off. kIa uses a special trans. fluid called red this fluid can't be mixed with any other trans. fluid.
A trans drain and refill is about the same as an engine oil change.
Find the trans. Under the trans is an oil pan, much like the one on the
engine. There should be a drain plug on the bottom of the trans pan.
Depending on the model of trans it can hold say 6-8 quarts of fluid.
Only about 2.6 will drain out the pan as the rest is held in the torque
converter.
The easiest approach is to measure how much fluid drained out and refill with the same amount.
The trains has a dipstick. Check fluid when hot, engine running after
moving the shifter from Park to Low and return. The dipstick will have a
"Hot" and "Cold" mark, use the hot mark if the fluid is hot. The stick
will also have the type of fluid used, typically Dexron III or now
called "ATF" fluid. Read the container to make sure it is a substitute
for Dexron III.
As only 1/3 to 1/2 of the total fluid amount drains out of the pan at
one time you will need to do a few drain and fills over time to get most
of the old fluid out.
My 1997 Caravan manual states that the trans fluid capacity is 8.5 quarts. However, in the transmission oil change section, it says to drop the pan, drain the oil, replace the filter and add 4 quarts of new fluid. This tells me that the torque converter is not draining so you are in fact, only changing "half" of the transmission fluid.
If the trans. fluid gets down , even a quart, it usually starts to slip or not shift right. Check the fluid with the engine running and warmed up on level ground (in park). If it's low start adding fluid about 1/2 a quart at a time and keep checking it. Watch for leaks while you're filling it. If no leaks are found take it for a test drive and check the fluid again.
You will need to drop the trans pan to drain. In turn you will need a trans filter kit which will include the filter and gasket. As far as fluid, it will require mercon dexron auto trans fluid, and will take about 6 quarts. What I normally do is fill with 5 qts and check, then add half qt at a time till full, which is normally 6 qts.
there is some good after market product you could use in they old days we used to drain a quart of oil and ad a quart trans. fluid for couple hundred mile then change oil and filter
