That makes no sense to me, a vacuum operated distributor has the same single (primary) wire to the coil.

If you changed to an H.E.I. distributor then you need to find a good 12 volt key-on only source to run it, (hot only when key is in the run position and no voltage in the accessory position), and it should be at least a 12 ga. wire, you do not need or can no longer use the original power supply wires to the coil because the original resistor wire will not provide enough power flow to properly saturate the coil.

There is really not a lot of wiring on that vehicle, and you should put it into a loom and keep it out of the way if you do not want it. If you choose to return it to a stock condition later on, you will find it is not an easy task to repair or replace that older wiring. Keep it and hide it, you will not regret it later.

I have a vacume line I dont know where it goes, its between the carb and the head, the vacume is at the botton of the carb at the base, the hose came off and it disaaapeared, i looked at the diagram under...

The base of the carb location sounds like the vacuum spark advance for the distributor. Look for a (possibly broken) approx 4mm pipe on the distributor body.

Do you know if the distributor shaft is turning ?
Have you checked the computer for trouble codes?
Did you use a new spring and button for the rotor ?

I have a 84 camaro with hei distributor motor is a 69 camaro 350 i keep melting the wires on the coil put new coil in car runs good for an hour or so then gets warm and melts wires and stall also did new...

HEI distributor and burning coils,it in you connection first make sure you install primary and secondary prorperly as it comes out of the cap , and inside the cap wire from modules dont make contact if you are burning its from primary circuit, this is the (B+) or (battery most likely), your secondary is your tach and that need to switch from postitive to negative for it to create spark obvously if tach was grounded or applied power you wont start, but there are times the condensor in the distributor does stays fixed and shorts out the coil (replace that condensor its for suppression) when the condensor is replaced run a fused direct wire at B+ (from ignition) run the vehicle and monitor the tach wire and check to see if that get hot

My car timing i s out of set

ok,bring your #1 cylinder up to where both intake and exhaust valves are closed and your harmonic balancer timing marks are on 0 degrees, drop your distributor in where the rotor is pointing to #1 cylinder leave a little loose where you can turn it while running, mark where the rotor is pointing on the intake so when you put the cap on you will know where to put #1 plug wire,of course hook up all wires, now just behind the distributor on the firewall there is a brown single wire, unplug that wire while you use a timing light to set it at 8 degrees(while its running)once you set it to where it needs to be then tighten the distributor and plug that wire back in,its for the computer for electronic advancements.if the engine pops or bangs when you try to start it,then the timing is 180 degrees off, then all you have to do is lift the distibutor out and turn it exactly 180 degrees...NOW im only going through all of this not because i dont think you know what you are doing, its because i dont want to miss anything on the timing order to avoid complications for you.

Can't find alt wire or bat wire for distibter put 305 in car can't find wires it was fi now carb can i use same tank

Yes you can use the same tank, not the same filters though. I dont' know what year of car it is, but if it has an in the tank filter, if you ever have to change the fuel sending unit get rid of that filter. Some filters for FIs need constant pressure or they get air pockets. Also you may have to change out the sending unit in the tank depending on how new it is. The FI sendign units may require more "pressure" to **** gas through, though a electric fuel pump over a mechanical pump will probably work fine with it. As far as the distributor wires, depends on the dizzy you have. There should he a ground, and a live somewhere from the coil to the cap, and big red wire going to the coil. If you need to find the wired, and they are on the car, start at the source, start at the alt, and work your way back, there shouldn't be a direct wire from the battery to the distributor, unless someone intentionally jumped the wire. Good luck.
