Car will not start all the time, not battery

My car will not start sometimes. It is not the battery. It makes no sound at all when I attempt to crank it. The problem is always after driving, not in the morning when I first start to crank it. Seems if I shift geers, it sometimes helps, but not always. It has been in the shop 2 times and they can't find the problem. I can go all day and sometimes it doesn't have a problem, then other days it won't start. Sometimes it will start after I open the hood.

2000 olds alero cranks then makes a metal grinding sound and won't start

You need to have your flywheel: replaced.Your starter motor engages against the fly wheel at the back of the motor. Every time your motor stops it tends to be in the same few positions (just the way things work) so there is more stress on some parts of your fly wheel than others. Because of this the teeth wear out on the fly wheel which means the starter can correctly engage on the fly wheel which is the grinding noise.

My 1988 Jeep won't start when I crank over the engine. It will turn the motor over a few times then I lose battery power. With a cold start it sometimes will start on first attempt but it has gott

it sounds like the starter is bad but first run a pair of jumper cables from the battery to the starter and the other jumper on the ground side just to make sure you don't have a bad cable larger parts stores can test it off the car if you bring it to them

Your battery is dead. See if a co-worker can give you a boost, and if the car will run, go to the nearest auto parts store. They will test your battery for free, as well as your alternator (what charges the battery and supplies power to your car while running) and advise you on what the problem actually is.

2002 impala intermitenly wont start

I would clean the battery connecters or possibly change them. How old is the battery? sometimes when battery get old, they have enough juice to crank the motor but not enough to start it..But then again, if it doesn't crank at all sometimes, it could certainly be a bad or loose battery terminals..Start with this since its the simplest and easiest and could very well be your problem. hope this helps

When I start the car sometimes it will start up no problems and other times it will go click click click click like the battery is dead , yet the battery is brand new. the car is a 1992

If you're absolutely sure the battery is good, then suggest you check all the connections between the battery and the starter solenoid, and between the solenoid and the starter motor. Also check the battery and starter motor earth connections.

Any connection that feels loose, looks corroded, or that gets warm after several seconds' failed cranking attempts is likely to want remaking.
