Try to see if there are any codes in the obd-II computer that would indicate what is unusual about the 97 honda odyssey that would cause a high idle. For instance, if there is a code for a bad iacv (idle air conrol valve) if so equipped, then this could be the cause of the problem. Other causes could be a vacuum leak somewhere under the hood, as another example. Good luck on this repair.

Honda likes to put the starter on most of their vehicles under the throttle body. The starter will connect to the transmission. You don;t have to pull the tranny to remove the starter. It will be located on the upper housing to the tranny case. Trying to explain, sorry. It will be half way up your engine block, on the engine side, facing the transmission, since it turns the fly-wheel in the transmission. Hope this helps, hard to explain sometimes

Try checking your timing to solve the ping problem, your timing might be too far advanced. For the downshifting problem, I have this same issue on my odyssey, On the top of your efi manifold you will see 2 wires that control your throttle, One of them extends to the transmission and basically lets it know when you are pressing firmly on your gas pedal, telling it to downshift. I would adjust it so the cable has some more slack in it, therefore requiring a harder press on the pedal before downshift, and hopefully a sooner upshift. You can also slightly adjust idling problems if the van is running high while in park or drive while sitting. As for the gas vapor purge code, I would first try replacing the egr valve, its only a couple bucks and takes no more than 5 minutes.

The only way to adjust the odometer is to bring it to a dealership and have them do it. For the cost and hastle over 20000 (4 oil changes), I would recommend leaving it alone.

Cv joint is gone. I'm not sure what they would charge you. Probably a couple of hundred or more. There is an hour labour plus the half shaft, so..... Just phone around for estimates.

check your wiring for dirty connections or broken wires, you may have wires that are rubbed through or connectors that are not making full contact. you will need an ohm meter and check wires for continuity. a wiring diagram will be needed.

check the starter solenoid... or replace the starter
