Modern engines should use about 2/3 rds to 1 qt in 700 800 miles. This is ok oil consumption, down to 1 qt in 500 miles is still ok but shows potential problems. Possible causes are, (If engine has less than 100,000. miles) Air filter needs replacing, EGR valve needs ports cleaned, PVC valve needs replaced... Spark plugs and or wires need replacing, If engine has more than 100,000. miles. Also the use of a engine oil additive can help. Such as STP or Lucas.
1 quart every 2000 miles. Not all cars are created equal. The same model may burn alot less or even more.
