My '02 chevy malibu got a code for cylinder 1 misfire. Tried replacing spark plug, plug wire, and coil pack. It smokes really bad. Black oil on spark plug. Also has a tick that has gotten worse, that...

You are getting oil in the cylinder and that is fouling your plugs. I would guess your piston rings are bad letting oil up into the combustion chamber or it is leaking down from the head through the valve guides. Good luck

My Ssangyong Actoyn sport misfires at times and then again run fine. It also smokes at times but this also gos away. The oil usages are normal. The enjen light also comes on and off at times. Pleas help...

most likely this is worn and leaking valve seals. engine oil leaks onto the piston (mostly burning away quickly and unnoticeably). when slowing from sustained engine speed, this oil doesnt burn away as rapidly, building in the combustion chamber instead. the built up oil burns away when you again accelerate, causing smoke for a very short period. this also causes momentary misfire (sometimes read by the ecu and signaling the check engine light). repeated multiple times a day, this leads to premature spark plug failure (fouled plugs). replacing the plugs is a short term fix (they will foul again). You need to get your valve seals replaced or this problem will get worse.

2001 Pontiac Montana - what is a misfire #5?

Without your actual trouble code, I am assuming that you are have a misfire on cylinder # 5. The computer cannot really tell what is causing the misfire only that cyl 5 is not putting out full power. If it misfires when cold then smooths out as it warms up, I would say it is probably an injector that is sticky, as it warms up it starts working properly.

2002 lincoln ls engine light

These cars are famous for leaky seals where the valve cover interfaces with the cylinder head, at the spark plug journals. They fill with oil, short the coils and cause a misfire. Driving it any significant distance can destroy your catalytic converters ad unburnt fuel ignites therein, creating inferno-like conditions and a fire hazard too. You'll get a "300 code", such as 301 if cylinder 1 is misfiring, 302 for # 2, etc. Pull the coil off the spark plug for that cylinder and if it is moist at all, that's your issue. Have new seals put in, or you'll just keep blowing coils at $50 a whack.

Engine light flashing

The most common problem for a misfire and a flashing check engine light is the ignition coi on plug.
Each spark plug has its own coil pack. With a coil pack failing it will also cause a airflow code as the car will start to run rich. With the vehicle misfiring it can also inhibit the Cruise control but it will not necessarily bring on a gearbox fault. The most common cause of the gearbox fault light coming on as you describe is usually a weak battery.
I would replace the coil pack and have the battery tested.
Thanks and good luck
