Depending on what pulley your refering to. If this is 3.0 V6 it may be water pump, If 3.3 or 3.8 liter may be idler pulley or tensioner pulley; if either one of these it may be easily purchased and replaced. Try like an AutoZone or such, they can probably identify which pulley and get you the proper replacement.

I hope this may have assisted you,
Tom

Power steering pulley or tensioner pulley?

Take the tension off the belt and then move each pulley by hand . If the tensioner pulley feels rough or makes a noise, replace it. Same goes for the power steering, although the pump may be noisy without the pulley feeling loose.

Have loud noise from engine, gets louder w/more rpms.it is an automatic,60k miles.no exhaust or muffler problem.

Serpentine belt tightener pulley bearing was bad, made a loud noise. I replaced the pulley (jobber part) and the noise level was reduced enough to notice the waterpump was also making a noise ... more revs = louder noise. I am now replacing the water pump. (approx 60k Miles too).

Motor making a loud tapping noise

Please open the bonnett and identify the tapping noise before we can decide on a possible fault.
It can be the slapping of belt, the water pump, the idler pulley, alternator.
If not the noise may be coming from the engine, possible tappet, cam noise or crank pulley being loose.
It is better you carefully hear the location of noise.A possible hint, spray some water to the belt, pulley, water pump, alternator pulley to see if the noise dies off . if so replace the confirmed part.
If within engine, teh section has to be confirmed but only after removing section.
Hope this help to identify. good day

I have loud noise coming from crankshaft pulley on 93 buick v-6 at idle mainly. What causes this?

Shiny belts will do this. Try taking a dry bar of soap, and touching it to bot sides of the belt. If the noise goes away temporarily, the belt has glazed from use, and is popping as it settles into the groove on the crank pulley. At higher speeds, the belt has to settle faster (it doesn't have as much time to rise up in the pulley from friction — a millimeter or less — then snap down into the pulley), and you don't hear the noise.

98 Merc grand marques on cold start engine makes loud hammer tapp

Yes, the balancer may be coming apart. Check the rubber between the two pieces to see if it has shifted. Also see if the belt is aligned with all the pulleys

Growling engine noise only at idle. Cam area

Take all of the belts off for a short run at idle. If the sound goes away it is pulley related, spin each pulley and listen for bearing noise, also check for play at this time.

If the noise does not go away when the motor is driving no accessories you have a more serious problem.

Loud pulley noise from A/C unit

For the price of a new pulley and bearing assy. and labor, it might be cost effective to get a remanufacterd unit and replace it yourself. When you tighten up the belt, don't overtighten.

Loud pulley noise coming from A/C unit?

it sounds like the bearing is going bad in the pulley through chrysler i believe you have to replace the whole unit. to do this you will need to recover the freon from the system which makes it hard to do at home
