I have a 92 Crown Vic first and second works fine reverse works fine when it shifts in the third gear it goes to slipping and overdraft can you help me fix this problem thank you
I would check into the Trans oil temp sensor, they are known to keep the trans from shifting into 4th gear if they have a open or a shorted circuit...This may also be the culprit for the other issues you are experiencing when the trans is at diff temps and doing diff things....The other thing that is known for going bad in that Transaxle is the Sunshell...The splines on the inside of the sunshell strip out and than you will lose pretty much all forward gears,Except for 1st gear most likely and you will also lose Reverse if the Sunshell goes bad...But this will not act any different if the temperature is cold or hot
you may not have trans problem at all. most of the time your motor mounts when worn out or broken can cause a hard ****. Put your car into gear with your foot on the brake and give some gas abrubtly and see if your engine jumps. do the same in reverse. remember to use the brake and have your hood open to see if your motor jumps.
HI, I have a 350, brand new in one of my old skool muscle cars with a 350 trans that used to be a drag car trans.
We changed the gears in it to street gears (4:11 to 3:55 gears) and every once in a while it will not go to the high gear, so I pull over, put it in park then back to driving and it works beautiful each time!!!!
Nothing is wrong with this car at all, brand new engine and trans in a oldskool muscle car!!!
*** The point to the story is; nothing mechanical is "PERFECT", only God's creations right. ;)
So the moral is more than likely the problem is from the area of the "engine to the trans"(that junction) and I will say your trans gears may have problems, one look doesnot make it true!
Get a second mechanic to look at the trans inside...
Also, if you have too much fluid in the trans it will all be floating in trans fluid and will give you the same effect in any gear....
This may be caused by fluid starvation from a plugged trans filter, also a shift solenoid inside the trans may be sticking, I would recommend u change the trans fluid and filter (required at 60,000 miles), also go to a Kragen auto or any chain parts store like it and ask to have a code test run on the powertrain control module , it is free.
That trans is either an RE4FO2A or V or RE4FO4A orV.Things to check when no 4th gear are:Inhibitor switch or control linkage misadjusted,no revolution sensor, speed sensor,or fluid temperature sensor signal, damaged overdrive switch, shift solenoid A,or brake band.
The accelator cable is "Y" shaped. one side goes to the carb and the other to the tranmission. If you have the carb.side too tight it will give you the problem that you are having.
