The airbags that i have removed in chevy steering wheels is easy, there are holes, one on each side of the steering wheel, you push something small and stiff in the hole and pull out ,do one side at a time. It shouldnt matter if the steering wheel is locked .

Hello, i broke the emergency light switch off on my 1996 chevy s10 and now the emergency lights will not turn off. how do i fix the switch?

This is not a real easy task. You have to remove the steering wheel and Airbag (if you have one). The steering wheel lock ring (locks steering wheel when key is removed) Then there are three screws that hold the turn/emg flasher indicator switch in place. You will also have to lower the steering column down from the dash to get the wires and plug though. Set aside a few hours if this is your first time. Good Luck

I am changing the turn signal multi function switch on my chevy lumina and ahave to take off the steering wheel which has an air bag in it the bag wont blow if i pull the cover off the wheel will it???

Before you take any thing off the wheel or take the airbag connector loose please remove both battery terminals and step on the brake pedal and release it 5 to6 times times draw any and all electrical current from the vehicle, then you can dislodge the airbag module, without exploding it, that would be painful.Get back to me with any questionsI'M HERE TO HELP!!!

I bought a used steering column from a scrap yard for my 92 chevy lumina and the dealership doesnt have a key code for it how do i remove the cylindar from the column

After the steering wheel is removed, and the lock bolt is removed, you can pull out the lock cylinder. You may need to carry the column to a locksmith and they can handle taking out the cyl for you. You may be better to swap cylinders with your old one, or a new cylinder will come with a new key. Special tools are neede to remove the steering wheel and compress the spring for the lock plate.

The procedure to remove the ignition switch is
  1. Start by disconnecting you negative battery cable.
  2. Wait at least 1 minute to disable your airbag system.
  3. Remove the airbag from the steering wheel, it's retained by a couple bolts on the back of the steering wheel.
  4. Disconnect the wires to it, and set it aside.
  5. Remove the clip that is above the lock nut for the steering wheel, then remove the lock nut.
  6. You need a steering wheel puller to pull the steering wheel off. After you remove the steering wheel, you should have access to the turn signal switch.

Replace turn signal switch 1998 chevy lumina

You may look or feel the back side of the steering wheel, looking for 2 screws that hold the airbag to the wheel, these will be internal torq type screws (star) you may have to rotate the steering wheel 90 degrees to access the screws. You should first disable the airbag, by removing the airbag fuse, and or by disconnecting a yellow connector located near the base of the steering column. under the knee bolster.(panel below column). Once the retaining screws are removed, lift bag and disconnect the 2 connector to the airbag, the ground for the horn, and the horn contact wire, which requires you to push down and twist counter clockwise, damage to the horn contact ring will occur if you try and just pull connector from the ring. Now you can remove the steering wheel, may require a puller, and the you will have access to the turn signal switch.

Need to change key cylender/ignition

the airbag, steering wheel and lock ring have to be removed to access the key cylinder. in addition to common hand tools you will need a steering wheel puller and a lock ring remover, under the airbag is the clock spring which allows the wiring for the airbag to rotate. be very careful not to rotate the clockspring or you will break the wires inside. after removing the steering wheel and lock spring you should be able to see how to remove the key cylinder, usually a bolt, screw, or clip
