This engine is fully electronically controlled, you must do a fault code test, once you have the fault codes you do the required fault codes testing per the factory service manual and replace or repair the problem(s) that caused the loss of spark.
Code points to "Cruise/Brake Switch (A) Circ Malfunction" which means the switch or connections might be bad. Most VW's of this era had a recall on brake switch, check with dealer to see if your car had it replaced. Stop lights might be out, cruise not working. Replace switch if any of these conditions present.
The simpliest way is to have a VW Dealer plug it in to their Diagnostic Computer and clear it that way. Probably charge for an hours labour.
You can buy Generic resetting tools (obd1 11 can etc) from car factors, ebay halfords etc. Not all work on all cars despite what they say in the blurb, So unless you want to splash out on a relly good compatible one - go to the Dealer.
Hope this is of help.

The parts aren't really that expensive, it's the labor these places charge an hour. Call around and see who can do it the cheapest, unless you want to do it your self.
