Hope someone can help. I have a 98 Dakota, 3.2l v6 with a manual 5 speed transmission. with the engine off, I can depress the clutch pedal and throw it into any gear. With the engine running, I can not engage the transmission (I physically cannot "push" the stick into place). If I start the truck in first gear, its as though I'm not depressing the clutch. I believe that my vehicle has a hydraulic clutch, and may simply require fluid, but I'm not sure where to look.

Many thanks! However now I'm left scratching my head again. The fluid level is fine in the slave cylinder, but the master is low. Are the two integrated? Should I top up the master? What about bleeding? If the vehicle is cold, there is no problem when running...for about a minute. Once the engine warms up a little, the problem starts. I can then place it in first gear with the engine off, start it up with the clutch pedal to the floor, and it's as though my foot isn't on the clutch at all.

Neutral safety switch location

If you have a 5-speed manual transmission, you're probably looking for the clutch safety switch, which is located on the clutch pedal under the dash near the firewall, rather than the neutral safety switch, which is on the left side of automatic transmissions. Out of curiosity, why do you believe that it needs to be serviced?

Clutch replacement 2wd 3.9 v6 2000 dodge dakota

If the clutch was worn out, the transmission would not go into reverse or low gear with the engine running.
This clutch is activated by hydraulic pressure like your brakes. The hydraulic part may not be working correctly.
To replace the clutch you have to remove the transmission.

I have a 1997 dodge neon 5 speed and when i shift gears there is a grinding noise. what can i do to fix this please??

sounds like you have a throw out bearing out. Put in neautral and depress pedal while idleing if noise starts its throw out bearing in clutch if noise is there when clutch is out in neautral its probly front trans bearing either involves removeing transmission and replaceing clutch assy or front bearing

Wont start - appears to have no spark

Have you checked the "clutch safety switch"? It should be at the base of the clutch pedal, or mounted on the trans by the slave cyl. (If it's a hydraulic clutch)

Changing from 98 2.5 man.tranny,to 01 3.9

WOW. You want to put a 3.9 ltr V6 from a 2001 Dakota into a 1998 Dakota with a 2.5 ltr 4 cylinder? And you want to keep the manual trans? Have you considered what you will be using for a fuel and engine managment system? If you have a wrecked truck as a host vehicle then the changover may work. But it will take patience and a lot of work. I don't think the 4 cylinder trans will bolt up but I am not sure - never tried that. However that light duty trans will probably not handle the torque for very long even if it did bolt up. Your local Auto Salvage Yard will have a changeover guide and be able to tell you if that trans will fit either engine. My recommendation is to swap everthing and change that 98 to a 01, auto trans and everything.
Good Luck
Let me know how it goes?

'98 Ford Ranger clutch safety switch,

You have to see if the pedal is linning up with the switch when it is depress. The holder may be bent or moving when it is depressed.
