Id say ur tranny is starting to go bad. Or it could be a modulator, or ur tranny seal needs replaced. The filter inside could of gotten lose. Iwould just take it to ur local tranny shop dont say ur having issues and get a fluid and a screen change should be like $79.00 and if ur having a bad tranny they will say u have metal or tell u there are issues besides the check up needed. I had a trans am and when it got hot it would slip and when i turned coners its was slipping bad. It turned out being the tranny screen had slipped lose. Guess i was jumping bumps to hard. idk but good luck
It isn't when the engine gets hot, it is when the transmission fluid gets hot that the slipping starts, due to wear of the clutches and gears inside the transmission. First, check the fluid level to make sure it is full. If it is low, bring fluid level to full and see if that helps.
About all the owner can do with slipping automatics is trying a transmission fluid and filter change to see if transmission revives and stops slipping. The bottom pan is removed, fluid (about 6-8 quarts) is drained, and a new filter is installed before the pan is replaced with a new gasket, sealed up, and fresh fluid added. Sometimes it helps. Sometimes the transmission is worn too bad to help, and you are left with looking for a replacement transmission. Check the fluid level first. Good luck.
Slow, slipping or no reverse: “lo-reverse” clutches are worn out,
fluid leak in the reverse apply circuit. It is
possible to remedy a fluid problem by removing the checkball from its
cage in the case in the trans may help (must remove
valvebody), or adding a high-viscosity additive such as Lucas
Transmission additive or other seal restorer product. May also have worn
boost valve (can replace in the pan).
I would have to say no,there is nothing else you can do now. Does the fluid smell burned? Is it discoloured? If it is ok now after the top up and additive ,consider your self lucky.
Absolutely; Automatic transmissions will slip for a number of factors but the the #1 cause is low fluid level closely followed by very old and brown fluid. Recomended fluid is MerconDexronII. Best of luck.
