Is it safe to drive my 2002 ponitac grand prix 200 miles on a bad oxygen sensor? I need to get back to school before I can get it fixed.
I would think so. It may waste gas, but 200 miles should not be that bad. I don't think being a little to rich or lean will hurt in that short of time. It would be worse in the city, with stop and start.
If the oil is dirty after, you might want to change it.
Yes...many people drive for years with a bad O2
the only thing that will happen is that you will get more gas milage, you might destroy your catalytic converter and you will polute the ozone more than usual...worst case is your car might start running really bad
assuming you can live with all the above then you should be fine
HOWEVER... what makes you think you have a bad O2...most often than not an O2 code does NOT mean you have a bad O2
Its okay but u will get bad gas milage
Hello
The engine
and automatic transmission in this vehicles drive train
are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM and
TCM (Power Train Control Module, Transmission Control Module). When a
problem like this or other drive-ability related problems occurs the
computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some
exceptions to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature
sensor and MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in
its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems
memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read
you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and
resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL
A TRAINED TECHNICAIN HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO AVOID SPENDING YOUR
HARD EARNED MONEY ON PARTS THAT MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM
