Change out cooling system radiator

RADIATOR
REMOVAL 1) Disconnect negative cable from battery. 2) Discharge the A/C system. 3) Remove the front fascia.
WARNING: DO NOT REMOVE THE CYLINDER BLOCK PLUG OR THE RADIATOR DRAINCOCK WITH THE SYSTEM HOT AND UNDER PRESSURE BECAUSE SERIOUS BURNS FROM COOLANT CAN OCCUR. 4) Drain the cooling system. 5) Disconnect the radiator fan electrical connectors. 6) Disconnect coolant reserve/recovery hose. 7) Remove A/C lines. 8) Remove the auxiliary transmission cooler hoses. 9) Remove the pushpins and the upper radiator seal.

10) Remove the pushpins and the LH and RH radiator seal (Fig. 20).

11) Remove the A/C condenser side brackets to radiator attaching screws (Fig. 22). Separate the condenser from the radiator by lifting upward to disengage from lower mounts (Fig. 22). Allow the condenser to rest in front of radiator. 12) Remove the upper and lower radiator hoses.

13) Radiator can now be lifted free from engine compartment. Care should be taken not to damage radiator cooling fins or water tubes during removal. (Fig. 21) 14) Remove the auxiliary transmission from the radiator module. 15) Remove the cooling fan assembly from the radiator module. INSTALLATION
1) Install A/C condenser, (if removed). 2) Install radiator fan assemble, if removed. 3) Install auxiliary transmission cooler, if removed. 4) Slide radiator down into position. Seat the radiator with the rubber isolators into the mounting holes provided, with a 10 lbs. force. 5) Install mounting screws. 6) Connect the cooling fan electrical connector. 7) Install the radiator upper and lower hoses 8) In the LH and RH radiator seals. 9) Install the upper radiator seal. 10) Install the auxiliary transmission cooler hoses. 11) Connect the coolant reserve/recovery hose. 12) Install the front fascia. 13) Fill the cooling system. 14) Connect negative cable to battery

I have a 2005 grand cherokee I just changed the waterpump now it runs hot and the information panel reads transmission over heating. What could the problem be?

Check the water level in the radiator as you may have had an air lock on initial fill and now the water level is below the top of the radiator cores. The transmission oil cooler is in the radiator and the box temp sensor will be reading hot because there is no water to cool the transmission oil

How do you replace the transmission cooler on my 89 oldsmobile cutlass supream

Your trans cooler is located inside one of the radiator tanks and would be expensive to replace.
You can either replace the radiator with new or used or cut the lines and install an external cooler as is used for towing. If the cooler in the radiator is leaking, you need to flush the system to remove as much oil as possible or it will cause hoses to soften and fail. Also wise to change trans fluid as well.
Always use double clamps when running rubber lines for cooler so they don't slide apart under pressure.

DID ALL 94 GRAND CHEEROKEES (INLINE 6) COME WITH AN AUXILIARY TRANSMISSION COOLER? MINE HAS ONE AND I HAVE NEVER USED THE JEEP FOR TOWING. I HAVE A LEAK IN THE AUX COOLER AND AM CONSIDERING BY-PASSING IT...

you probably need to talk to the parts department at jeep to see if it came in another version. if the hoses for the auxillary cooler go into and out of the radiator you will still have a radiator cooler for light duty use.if not the other model probably had a different radiator.but do not run with no cooler it will cost a lot more to repair the transmission the the oil cooler.

How much would a rebuilt transmission cost for a 97 Jeep Grand

In Cnd dollars somewhere in between $1400 and $1800 plus taxes with a 1 year guaranty.

Personnally, as a owner of two grand cherokee 97 and 2000 I would never pay this amount of money unless you are planning to die with it.

Personnally my plan would be get a used one at $350 cnd $, with a 90 days guaranty, get a new filter and pan gasket and shaft seals installed, + pay approx $300 cnd for installation.

It's up to you to make the final decision.

By the way, there is a reason why yours is burned or faultive.
I would recommend to check radiator condition, follow recommandations about the appropriate oil and have an oil transmission radiator cooler installed if you tow heayy weight on a regular basis.

Sorry for my english,

Dan

Radiator full of oil think it is auto transmition oil why and how do i solve problem

do not drive this vehicle. Check the transmission dipstick if it is milky then change the tranny oil, sounds like the transmission cooler line split inside the radiator. i would put a stand alone transmission cooler on the vehicle.

Good luck.

What is the cooling agent used for the transmistion cooling? is it oil? There is an oil type substance coming from the radiator area.

The transmission cooler is mounted either in front of the coolant radiator or it is part of it. The auto transmission oil comes from the gearbox (hot) via small pipes it is then passed through the cooler and back into the gearbox. If you have signs of oil around the front of the radiator then you need to get it looked at ASAP. If you loose too much fluid you will damage the transmission and if the cooler splits you may end up with engine coolant in the transmission oil (not good as it will screw up your transmission very quickly)
