Tip & How-To about Saturn S-Series

Ignition Key won't turn?

Hi There,

I'm assuming you have a key.

If you do and you are unable to turn it, this is what is happening:

Your front wheels are slightly (or more) off center. They are trying to center themselves and in doing so are putting pressure on the lock plate which allows the key to turn.

The fix:
Which ever way the front wheels are pointing, however slightly, turn the steering wheel further in the same direction and try the key while holding the wheel over.

Doing this takes the pressure off the lock plate and allows the cylinder to move.

If you don't have the key that's a whole different fix......

Best regards
Mike

03 FOCUS IGNITION WILL NOT TURN. HOW DO YOU GET THE LOCK CYLINDER OUT?

Hi SSM,

It might be that there is pressure on the steering lock plate. If the front wheels are turned, even slightly, the force of them trying to return can keep the key from being able to turn.

Try to turn the wheel a little further in the same direction to relieve the pressure and try the key.

I bring it up because it happened to me.

I sure hope it helps you

Mike
