Can I bypass the heater core in the rear of my 99 GMC Savanna conversion van by just tying the two coolant hoses together that run to the back of the van and just have no heat back there?
Yep. Just get a piece of copper tube or an elbow and substitute it for the heater core anywhere it's easy to get to.
The cooling runs on a separate system not having anything to do with the heating so the AC should be fine. As for adding any damage...I'm sure you've seen the steam/hot water radiators used for heating houses. The heater core works similar to one of those with a fan behind it to force the heat away from the heater core. So think of it as having one of the old hot water radiators in a house with a fan behind it to blow the heat away, only the heat is off. Shouldn't harm anything.
Hope that answers your question. Thanks for using FixYa.
Thank you PC302001, very much appreciated.

Will this do any harm to the unit at all? Or does it just stop the ability to heat using the back heater...also, can the a/c still be used in the back?
Rear heater is leaking out the relief hose that hangs behind rear wheel directly under the heater....not sure how to fix it without doing this.
