Add seafoam to fuel tank this will stableize the fuel add fresh gas, pull spark plugs spray wd40 or pb blaster into each spark plug hole replace with fresh plugs make sure that everything is "DRY" before starting if mosture in on any electronic part of the car it could cause it to fail if need be use a hair dryer to warm serface to dry. make sure battery is in good shape, start car let run till up to operating temp test breaks (DO NOT PLACE IN GEAR) hold breaks down firm for 1-2 mins to make sure that brake lines do not fail due to sitting could have line rusted and you want to make sure that everthing will work properly before even moving it this includes rotors brakes emergency brakes if you are not sure and want to have someone who knows what else to do it would be a good investment to have the car "flatbeded or wheel towed" to someone you trust and have them go over the car I am guessing the car was just parked without any long time storage mesures taken spraying the undercarrage for rust prevention and rot if kept in a dry garage then you have a better chance that you will not run into problems but the basics of getting the car to roll I have told you take your time getting it up and running main things are brakes, rotors, brakelines, seals, belts, tires, hoses, electronics, battery, gas, plugs cylinder walls of engine fresh oil and filter, fresh transmission fluid and filter, fresh power steering fluid. these are the things that you need to do for a classic car like this good luck and enjoy!

Engine wont turn over

You have asked a question which cannot be answered without a LOT more information. Like what do you mean, won't turn over? By hand? or by starter? And if starter, have you checked all electrical start systems? Have you TRIED turning it over by hand?? You should have done that FIRST before you ever tried to start it.

If you care about the condition of the engine after 12 years, you have a lot MORE work to do than worry about whether it will crank over. I had the same situation last year with a car that had sat for 10 years, and I worked on it about 2 weeks (off and on) before I ever hit the starter. (Hint: you do NOT want to suck in 12-year old gas and 12-year old oil. Another hint, pull all the plugs and squirt light oil - Marvel Mystery Oil, drain ALL the gas, oil and coolant and replace.) Oh, and by the way, when I finally hit the starter, it fired right up. Now get to work and check back in 2 weeks.

1992 jag xj6 transmission light comes on goes into limp in mode, have replaced tcm

give it a little time to settle down a bit.sometimes you will never see the light again.
transmissions are bullet proof on these models.it wont hurt to check transmission fluid level while you are at it.
good luck and god bless.

Do a full blown fuel system cleaning and replace fuel filter. If you can, check the SeaFoam.com site on cleaning procedures. It works great for bringing the dead (stored/parked) back to life. FWIW, mashing the pedal to floor on those older TBIs actually turns fuel off on start ups. Run a good cleaner through it (sounds like injector is gummed up)

Sat dry for 2 years - Oil or Money??

Get your biggest barge pole and don't go near that car without it!

Unless you have the time, experience and money to expend to get it going again?

At that age the Jag's weren't built like they are now (metal alloys, etc..) I would suspect that if you tried to run it, you would need a new gearbox within 2000 miles.

Check the HT leads for security, make sure the battery is fully charged, clean the sparkplugs and try again, could just be a loose cable for starters.
If this doesn't solve the problem you need to have the engine diagnostics run at a garage before any advice is possible - even if you check for spark and find none you cant suspect the coils until you know the condition of the ECU.
