My starter on my 2002 Suzuki XL 7 died today in my garage. At first I thought it was my battery...battery is fine. I was told it sounds like my starter since there is not juice or sound when I turn the key except a clicking sound that has since stopped when I turn the key now. I had notice for the past few months that there had been some hesitation when I turned my key to start my SUV ...and then it would eventually catch and start. Now, it's completely dead. Where would I find the starter under the hood in my Suzuki XL.7?

The first thing is to make sure the battery terminals and connectors are clean and free of corrosion so the starter can getr enough power to operate. To find your starter follow the large red wire that goes to the bottom side area of the engine. It will be held on by two bolts.

Check the start solenoid, starter side, when you turn the key... The battery side will always be hot, the starter side should be hot when you turn the key.

2002 suziki XL-7 will not start

The starter solenoid has been known to stick on these cars. If you jump start the extra battery will free it up till next time (right) If this is the case replace solenoid or the whole starter. You can also bang the solenoid with a wooden broom handle if it will reach the starter not sure you can see if from above. Ignition switch would be my second item to check closer. But starter should probably fix it. When you say battery is fully charged it should have a voltage also around 12.8.

it sounds like a bad earth, the only way round this is to test all the earths on the ecu by back probing them, run with air con off then on, a bad earth will have 0.5v or higher a good earth will be 0.2 or o volts.
