I am wondering what makes you think the engine is overheating?
When an engine overheats it does so when running, either because it is running inefficiently or because there is insufficient cooling.
While the engine is running, the inside of the engine is considerably hotter than the outside - the heat from each combustion can take a relatively large amount of time to be conducted through the metal components to the outside where the cooling air immediately dissipates it.
When a hot engine is stopped, the flow of cooling air also stops and so for a while the outside of the engine becomes quite a bit hotter as the heat from the inside is conducted to the outside but not quickly dissipated.
You need to get a hotter stat for winter....plus you need to reduce air flow into radiator. You can reduce flow by installing a piece of cardboard in front of radiator. Please only cover partially as complete coverage coyld cause overheating. You are only teying to reduce not elim
A thumbs up would be greatly appreciated if this answer is helpful to you.
I would check to make sure the radiator is full and the overflow tank is filled to the proper level. It doesn't have to be very low for these cars to stop blowing heat.
if your car normally runs at 190, anything higher is abnormal, even if its not completely overheating. since it started to get hotter when you stopped, and didn't do it while running errands, i would check the electric cooling fans. when you're not moving along and not pushing fresh air through the radiator, this is when you need the fans to work. next time you stop and sit awhile, if the temp starts to creep up, get out and look at the fans and see if they are working.
Oil is cheaper than metal.Turbo motors run a lot hotter than non-turbo motors and need more frequent oil changes.1st thing to do would be get the oil changed with a good quality oil and also do the filter.Hope this helps
Mine was doin the same thing when i got it. We fixed the " fan clutch " which apparently sits in front of the radiator and helps cool the AC(according to mechanic). When this got fixed the AC ran cooler and car started running cooler. Like yours, mine was overheating, but running hotter than it should.
