We are having trouble getting the spark plugs out of a 1998 ram truck. They have metal heat protectors around them and we can not find a socket that will get far enough down to grip the spark plug and get it out.

Spark plug socket dont fit dodge ram

I think your vehicle takes a 15mm or 16mm socket. Normal spark plug wrench will not work. Visit your local Parts Store for more information. Have them show you a replacement plug for your truck and see what socket fits it.
Good Luck.

How does metal piece over plugs come off

They are usually just pressed in. To get the boot off twist it to free it from the plug. A spark plug socket will fit inside the metal heat shield tube

1998 dodge 1500 5.9 will not start, Just installed plugs, cap and wires 2 days ago and it was running great. I ran an errand this morning ran great. But now I can't get it started. I know it has and is...

you can check for spark by plugging in one of your old sparkplugs to one of the spark plug cables and letting the sparkplug lay on the bare metal of the engine. Turn over engine to see if the spark plug is producing a spark. No spark? Check under the distributor cap, take a look at the rotor for damage.

How do I replace the spark plugs on a 2001 Dodge Dakota? There is some type of metal cylinder around the spark plug, preventing me to get my socket to grab on to the spark plug.

is it a shroud that covers all of them i know some models it takes a special plug socket to remove them its very thin in diameter so a special socket is used or if possible like i said if its a shroud remove this to gain access

Changing spark plug wires in 1998 camry

You aer not clear about your problem, when replacing plugs and wires all the boots need to stay in place, the larger boot goes around the spark plug, making sure the metal is secure around the tip of the plug, the oppisite end fits the distributer cap, making sure the metal at the end of the wire is securely in the hole. You said you have 3 boots, you should boots for each end of each plug wire and a plug wire for each spark plug
