The easiest and cheapest fix is to find another car with the same engine and, with the owner's permission, take some pictures. If you can't do that buy or borrow a service manual for the car. Check eBay, Amazon, your public library and a Honda dealer for the book. The last choice is to buy a aftermarket manual for the car. Be careful. Make sure the information is in the book before you buy it. Good Luck!

Help changing alternator on 1998 honda civic. how do you remove the belt or is there a belt?

The alternator has a bolt that is adjustable to keep tension on the belt. There should be a single bolt that is fixed, and probably another that sits in a slot in the bracket that allows adjustment. You'll loosen the bolt in the bracket slot and give the belt some slack, and it should come off the pulley. When replacing, you may have to have someone help pull the alternator so it puts tension on the belt, and then you can tighten it down. I have seen some vehicles that have a bolt that will turn in or out to either tighten the alternator or loosen it.

I need the belt diagram for a 1982-83 honda civic.

Here is a link to every picture and belt you could possibly need. Looks like only an alternator belt that is easy and a timing belt that is more involved but these pictures are great!!

How do you replace a 1999 honda civic alternator?

Fig. Alternator bracket and bolt locations

  1. Note the radio security code and the radio presets.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable, then the positive.
  3. Remove the power steering pump.
  4. Detach the wiring from the alternator.
  5. Loosen the through bolt, then loosen the adjustment locknut. Then loosen the adjusting bolt.
  6. Remove the alternator belt.
  7. Remove all mounting and adjusting bolts and then remove the alternator unit.
To install:
  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  2. Adjust the alternator belt tension.
  3. Enter the anti-theft code for the radio.

Hope helps (remember rated this).

Just bought a 2004 Honda Civic VTech with 37000 miles. When does Honda recommend changing the timing belt?

Do you mean inside the engine(timing belt)?Or do you mean tensioner belt which is attached to a/c,alternator,fan etc.?If you mean tensioner belt(which seems more like what you are asking),then it just needs to be inspected periodically. If there are frays, knicks,or cracks, then it needs changing. They may have a requirement,I am not sure, but when companies have set scheduling like 30K,or 50K mile checkup,it is more likely to require inspection to determine replacement needs, rather than a definitely change at such and such miles.Good luck!

I have a 1998 Civic ex. Sometimes when starting my car, mainly when its cold outside, it makes a high pitched squealing. USUALLY, when i get up past 2000rpm it goes away, but will come back when it again...

Try tightening the belts first. You may have to do it a couple times, as new belts will loosen up a bit as they break in. Not TOO tight, though. That can put a lot of pressure on the bearings.
