Very common for the socket to short out internally. Inspect it then unplug it. If the fuse is ok after you unplg it then you need to replace the socket.

First of all the lighter can be good or bad. Yes there is a fuse. The element that lights the cigarette can be burnt out as well. You can see an open spot if its bad. Usually it get filled of debrie and shorts out eventually. Third the case the lighter plugs into can short out as well for the same reason. A ohm meter is used to test all of these items to determine if bad.

Yes its the problem of fuse.it is located in the trunk space and its fuse number #5. It is a 25 Amp fuse.
in some model car the fuse is located below the rear passenger seat. theres a little kick panel you pull off and the fuse is in that box. This will help. Thanks please keep updated.please please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya

That is the most likely cause. Check your fuse it will be a 15 amp fuse.

Testimonial: "Thanks. The fuse looks ok. Checking connection to the lighter itself."

It could be just the lighter itself the coil may be gone in it.

SOURCE: cigarette lighter doesn't work

before u pull panel, check for 12vdc with voltmeter inside lighter socket. If u have it, then clean contacts and/or replace lighter(not socket, wiring is fine) May save a lot of work. If you don't have voltage are you 100% sure you have right fuse and not the one below, above, or next to it? I still make mistakes with numbered fuses, which number is for which fuse. To make sure I start counting at 1.

If fuse is good on cig lighter in still not working what can it be 2005 grand prix

but still no power to cigarette lighter ? How do you know, did use a voltmeter an test for battery voltage ? Or just pushed in the cig lighter an it doesn't heat up ? How did you check the fuse , just look at it ? They can be bad but look good . See the 2 metal tabs on top of the fuse , you can use a voltmeter an test for battery voltage at both tabs. Does it have battery voltage ? Or the lighter element is bad or the socket it self is ?

Cigarette lighter

It may have burned out the heating element. There may be an inline fuse.

Penny dropped into the cigarette lighter of my 2008 saturn astra. I got the penny out, but the cigarette lighter doesn't work

hi,

there must have been a weak connection somewhere in the line.
use a volt meter to trace from the lighter to the fuse box.
I have also seen the wire connection go bad during a short in the back of the fuse box itself where the wire goes in.
follow the 12 volts and you will find your problem.

Cigarette lighter on 2004 Grand Prix isn't working.

The lighter socket or the element.
Check the element for burn marks and the socket for debris blocking the contacts.

Cigarette lighter ans accessour power point not working... it's not the fuse

I had a similar problem I thought it wasn't the fuse because I had only checked one but there are two cigarette fuses. Also you can replace the whole cigarette lighter if it is getting power to it. If it isn't there might be a bad wire leading to it. Get a test light to see if it's getting power through the fuses hole.

Cigarette lighter doesn't work

either the push in part of the lighter is bad a fuse has blown or the actual socket has burned out. check the fuse first if it is good then get behind the lighter and check to see if there is power to the lighter. if there is then replace the lighter assembly while your there. hope this helps

Where is the fuse located to make my cigarette lighter work?

a cigarette lighter is rarely on its own fuse, test the plug with a cell phone charger or some other device that plugs into the lighterplug, if it works the cigarette plug is ok, and the actual lighter itself is bad, most auto stores sell replacements
