2002 avalanche fuel gauge reads empty

The fuel level sender is located on the fuel pump hanger assembly. Sometimes the fuel pump, sender and hanger are all individually serviceable while other times the whole unit is replaced as a module assembly. The fuel level sender works by taking a 5 volt reference signal sent by the powertrain control module (PCM), modifying the voltage using resistance based on fuel level, then sending that signal back to the PCM. The PCM then reports the information to the body control module (BCM) so that the fuel level gauge in the instrument cluster can be adjusted accordingly. Fuel level senders are the most common failure for inaccurate fuel gauge readings. When the sender (or module assembly) is replaced, it's important to ensure the float is properly attached to the sender arm otherwise the resistance will not change with fuel level as designed. If this was done properly then there is likely a problem with the gauge or in the circuit between the level sender and the PCM. One easy way to test the circuit and gauge is to unplug the fuel pump; this creates an infinitely high resistance which should bottom out the gauge. Then, a jumper wire can be used to short the two sender wires (the smaller 2 of the 4 wires) to create a zero-resistance circuit which should top out the gauge. ON MY 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 4X4 5.3 IS MY FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR SUPPOSED TO HAVE A VACUUM HOSE ON IT

The fuel pressure regulator is inside the gas tank , it's part of the fuel module . No vacuum line inside the fuel tank .

The Fuel System is a returnless on-demand design. The fuel pressure regulator is a part of the fuel sender assembly, eliminating the need for a return pipe from the engine. A returnless fuel system reduces the internal temperature of the fuel tank by not returning hot fuel from the engine to the fuel tank. Reducing the internal temperature of the fuel tank results in lower evaporative emissions.
An electric turbine style fuel pump attaches to the fuel sender assembly inside the fuel tank. The fuel pump supplies high pressure fuel through the fuel filter and the fuel feed pipe to the fuel injection system. The fuel pump provides fuel at a higher rate of flow than is needed by the fuel injection system. The fuel pump also supplies fuel to a venturi pump located on the bottom of the fuel sender assembly. The function of the venturi pump is to fill the fuel sender assembly reservoir. The fuel pressure regulator, a part of the fuel sender assembly, maintains the correct fuel pressure to the fuel injection system. The fuel pump and sender assembly contains a reverse flow check valve. The check valve and the fuel pressure regulator maintain fuel pressure in the fuel feed pipe and the fuel rail in order to prevent long cranking times.

Why does the temperature gauge on my 1995 Chevy K2500, 5.7L read 150 degrees ?

If you replaced the SENSOR and not the gauge SENDER, there's your answer.

The SENSOR sends the computer (ECM, PCM, ECU, etc.) the engine temp so it can make the adjustments to the fuel, timing etc.

The gauge SENDER makes the gauge read what temperature the engine coolant is.

Hope the helps.

Why does fuel sensor not work correctly after replacing fuel pump on 2009 kia rondo?

you must mean the fuel gauge? is dead? just a hint here.

wire /connector left loose.
when replacing any fuel pump check the 2 pins on the level sender
it will read 10 to 200 Ohms about 10 is full, and 200 or bit higher is empty, if the sender reads INFINITY. the sender is bad.
or is unplugged in the tank.
the sender is just a wire wound variable resistor.
a pot or correct name is a rheostat. (electronics, true names)
on car, its a FUEL level SENDER.

double posted.

prev.gif next.gif REMOVAL & INSTALLATION Fig. 1: Exploded view of the fuel sender, including the fuel pump 88005g58.gif
  1. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure, as outlined earlier. CAUTION
Fuel injection systems remain under pressure, even after the engine has been turned OFF. The fuel system pressure must be relieved before disconnecting any fuel lines. Failure to do so may result in fire and/or personal injury.
  2. If not already done, disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle with jackstands.
  4. Safely drain and remove the fuel tank assembly as outlined later in this section.
  5. Detach the quick-connects from the fuel sender assembly and remove the fuel lines.
  6. Using tool J 35731, or an equivalent spanner wrench, remove the fuel sender lockring.
  7. Lift the sender assembly carefully out of the fuel tank.
  8. Remove the sender O-ring from the top of the sender and discard. WARNING
Do NOT run the fuel pump unless it is submerged in fuel. Running the pump dry will cause serious damage to the fuel pump and may cause the pump to explode due to the oxygen in the air.

95 taurus stalls out when temperature exceeds 102. The temperature gage seems to be in the normal range , when this occurs. Once car has cooled off, it drives fine. I have read that the 95 Taurus has had...

your evaprative emissions could be purging into the engine at that point too, giving too rich a mixture.

here's what you are referring to:

ISSUE: A reduced power, hesitation, stalling at low vehicle speed, idling and/or a no start condition may occur on some vehicles in hot ambient temperatures and/or high altitudes. In addition, a no start may result while the engine is still hot and the vehicle has been parked for a short period. A stall may also occur when moving the vehicle from idle. This may be caused by a lack of vapor ports in the fuel pump, resulting in a vapor lock condition or internal high wear of the fuel pump components due to tank contaminants.
ACTION: Perform normal diagnostic routines as described in the appropriate year Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis Manual (PC/ED). If the condition still exists after all diagnostics are followed, replace the fuel pump with a new turbine fuel pump. Refer to the following Part Application Chart for correct part usage. Also, replace in-line fuel filter with a new filter (E7DZ-9155-A). The new turbine fuel pump will reduce the possibility of vapor lock in high ambient temperatures. Refer to the appropriate model/year Service Manual for removal and installation procedures.
