SOURCE: how to remove water pump from 1999 pontiac grand am GT

After you drain coolant remove the larger hose at the bottom of over flow tank and the 2 smaller hoses at the top. remove the 1 bolt holding the overflow tank on and remove tank. Next take serpentine belt. Take the 4 bolts off holding on the water pump pulley and remove pulley. Next remove the 5 bolts holding water pump in. Clean water pump housing of old gasket and clean with alcohol or paint thinner to remove any residue. Use a small amount of RTV sealant along with a new gasket and put in the 5 bolts tightening them by hand. Next tighten the bolt a quarter turn at a time until tight.put on pulley, put in overflow tank and attach bolt and 3 hoses .

1999 grand prix gt overheating. Changed thermostat, water pump, upper radiator hose. Please help!

does the upper and lower hoses seem to be the same temp when car begins to overheat? ore the radiator cooling fans coming on before the car overheats? did you pressure test the cooling system and radiator cap? also may want to remove the lower hose and flush the radiator. is the check engine light on and does it run bad?

1999 Pontiac Grand Prix Overheating

I had trouble with overheating on my 2000 Grand Am, The dealer could not even resolve the issue,(they wanted to replace the intake gaskets)...I knew that was not the issue, no air leaks or water leaking there; so I sit down to think; what are the causes of overheating. Thermostat sticking - nope not it, water circulates, Water leak - nope not it, has water stays until it gets too hot and goes out overflow, fans working - yep...hummmm the only other thing I could think of was losing of water pressure, yep that's it - the cap on the coolant tank was going bad, got a new cap ($8.00) replaced the old one and no more trouble going on 6 months now.

Hope this may solve your issue.

1999 Pontiac Grand Am Overheating

It is probably the problem. To make shure that need to change the gaskets, one of the symptoms use to be thet the temp rises when you are running at speed 50+ average, where is supposed that the car gets a lot of air due by the speed and nobody thinks that will be overheated.
