I have a 97 grand am 3100 v6. when engine is cold it starts and runs fine until i shut it off then it wont start until it cools off. the fuel pump wont work until engine cools off. then it will start and run fine until i shut it off, thank you

Generally speaking, its supposed to do that.
The fuel pump(s) is powered by a relay that turns on for 3 seconds when you turn the key on. If the engine does not start and produce oil pressure, thats all the power the pump gets. If you were in a wreck the pump would shut off when the engine dies even with the key on to prevent a fire.
You would need to jumper the relay to make the pump run beyond the 3 second time.

possible fuel pump relay.When engine stalls and wont restart listen at fuel tank for fuel pump to buzz for three seconds when key is turned on.

Check the fuel filter. A clogged filter will let enough gas through to get it started but not enough to rev the engine. Good luck.

bad fuel pump.- just replace it and your good to go!

you might want to check your return line to the tank

if you havn't replaced the fuel pump yet that should do the problem

Oil pressure sensor is part of the fuel circuit. You changed engines, did the new one have the same sensor?

I think you may have answered your own question. I would check to see if the fuel pump is turning on when you turn the key on to the run position. You should hear a buzz sound coming from the gas tank. I would start there.
