Where is the pcm located on a 1997 mercury tracer?

Hello Rippgut.
The PCM is mounted in the console.
The park brake and shifter console needs to be removed to access it.
Also the 4 screws that hold down the shifter need to be removed.

I hope your repair goes well.

The problem is the shifter interlock switch. Its fairly cheap to replace and simple.

I have a 97 Mercury Tracer with disk brakes in rear. I disconnected the emergency brake cable and loosened the bleed screw and cannot compress the cylinder to put new pads on. Is there a trick?

take a pair of channel locks and turn the caliper piston clockwise while pushing it in a little bit at a time until it is in all the way. Some pins on the back of them so they sit in the caliper right. make sure to line those pins up. They do make a tool to turn the piston but I have done it this way before. Hope this helps leave comment.

How do I adjust the parking brake cable on a 1991

If the car has a center console between the seats, and the e-brake lever is there, remove the console there should be a bolt to tighten or loosen. Loosen it with the lever DOWN, pull the cable as tight as it will go with your hand and a pair of pliers. Holding the cable in place tighten the bolt or nut that secures the cable. If this doesn't fix it, have your rear brakes inspected and/or adjusted.
