The coil will get hot with running ,timing must be out put cam back as it should be ,it will not run any better with the cam advanced ,this is tech talk by part time weekend mechanics that know sweet all nothing .reset the timing to static for number one TDC ,firing order 153624 ,the only way a cam will give more rpm is if its designed to with a different cam lobe configuration not just moving it ,This will also cause the engine to use more petrol because it has no power at the low RPM range .These boy racer mags think they know it all with their cog boxes and harry moss add on goodies ,and fancy paint jobs .If you want a faster car get a ferrari or a jaguar XK ,and ignore these so called experts who are all talk to baffle people like you ,if they think they know it all just ask this question ?? is this engine adiabitic or isothermal ,if they cannot or will not answer this question then just call them a sunday mechanic .

same for all engines. (no engine stated, so no exact answers)
is your gas or diesel (ill guess gas)?
gasoline and not LPG or other fuels. real gas ,nor flex fuels on E100
cranks but no starts.
blown fuses, check fuses first, ( always #1 with EFI)
bad gas.,
the first check is spark , gas dont burn lacking SPark (mr,otto cycle)

any engine can run on test fuel, if it has spark (Otto)
some engines will never start
  1. lost compreesion 1 or more cylinders
  2. melted CAT converter, blocking exhaust
  3. EgR stuck open, wide, if your unstated engine has one.
  4. fuel pressure zero or 10psi. dead. must be at spec.

Why my 2005 ba ford falcon wont start?

Its either no spark or no gas. Remove the fuel line and carefully crank it over..are you getting any fuel? If not possibly clogged fuel filter or bad fuel pump. If yes, are the spark plugs firing. Remove number one plug lead hold close to any metal surface on engine, crank over ..spark there..strong or weak spark? No spark check coil and associated parts.

I have a suzuki xl7 tht wont start and says service traction control service stability control dont know if it is the pass key 3 or just an ecm problem

no year stated. that is challenging
2 problems.
if it dont start , traction dont matter now so, will the engine crank over fast? if yes, is the spark good? on all cylinders?
yes/no
how many miles on it?
which engine/
2.5 L (156 hp) a V6
2.7 L (185hp) V6

no starts.
Does the Check engine lamp glow key on,
Yes, good
no , fuse blown. (the PCM EFI brain must have power to run)

  1. does it crank? fast?
  2. check fuses yet. all fuses, related to EFI? and spark.
  3. Got spark at all 6? spark plugs. (tedious on C.O.P. cars)
  4. if above all ok, we try test fuel to see if you lost fueling.

2005 dodge neon cranks but wont start

Hello, If it just cranks and not starting at all can be several things to look at. A engine to run needs fuel, spark, compression, air. BUT here is what I would first do, if you check to see if you have spark, and fuel, most likely it could be the crank sensor. If no codes come up on dash. There is so many things it could be. Just take one step at a time. See if your getting fuel, if you smell fuel, like flooded, then its getting fuel, otherwise could be fuel pump not working, If pulling a plug and keep it in plug sleeve and set next to medal screw on block, and have someone turn key, to see if you see spark. If spark then getting spark, Then were back to a couple things.... Crank sensor went out, that will cause to crank and not start, if cam sensor went out, it would still run, but just like ****. Next if still cranks and wont start, could be the timing chain missed a slot, which means could of bent a valve or stuck valve. Dont panic yet, just like I said start with first and always fuel, and also dont forget fuse panel for fuel relay fuse or fuel pump fuse to see if good. Keep me posted as i will try and help you along the way, Mike

My 90 acura integra wont start it turns over but wont fire i changed the distributor, and spark plugs,i am getting fuel but it just cranks and cranks but wont start, the cause i dont know was driving down...

Well, something is missing. Your engine needs fuel, ignition, and compression to run. You need to findout which of these systems is malfunctioning before anybody can tell you why your engine won't start.
If there is no spark, I would check the ignitor in the distributor first. There are other possible causes, but this isthe most common.

If there is no fuel, I would suspect a bad fuel pump. (you can check this by spraying a SMALL amount of starting fluid in the intake and see if the engine fires.

If there is no spark and no fuel, I would suspect a broken timing belt.

My 98 sonoma will not start. It turns over and cranks for just a split second then dies

you may have a fuel blockage
if it is fuel injected, remove the fuel supply line leading up to the fuel rail, put the end of the hose into a small jar, turn the engine over a few times to see if fuel is coming through, if no fuel is coming through check the fuel filter, if still no fuel your problem is most probably in the fuel pump in the tank.
if you have fuel at the hose you took off the fuel rail your problem is possibly electrical, start by removing a lead from each plug one at a time, hold the end of the lead near a metal surface such as a bolt head or the block, crank the engine and check for spark from the lead, if there is spark on that lead check the other leads as well, if they all spark move to the spark plugs and check all of those by removing them from the head, putting the lead on the plug and put the plug onto a metal surface and crank the engine, if there is spark at the point on the plug it can be considered to be working.
repeat the same steps for all the plugs but make sure you hold the plug on the block with a good pair of insulated pliers to avoid getting a shock from the lead.
If all the plugs are working check for compression in the engine.
if all those steps dont find the problem you will have to consult a mechanical workshop for further checks
hope this has helped

Car wont start

Hi,
If the engine cranks over normally when you attempt to start you car, but the engine does not start, the problem may be NO FUEL, NO SPARK or NO COMPRESSION. The engine needs adequate fuel pressure, a properly timed spark and normal compression to start.

1) To find why the engine won't start, remove the air inlet tube from the throttle body, push the throttle open and spray a small amount of aerosol starting fluid into the engine. Crank the engine. If it has spark and compression but NO FUEL, it will start and run a few seconds before dying. If it does NOT start, it probably has NO SPARK.

2)Another method to check for spark is to pull a spark plug wire off of a spark plug (if it has plug wires, coil-on-plug ignitions do not) and place the open end of the plug wire near a metal surface on the engine. Have a helper crank the engine while you watch for a spark. DO NOT hold the wire while doing this as it can shock you. If you see a spark, the problem is not spark, but most likely NO FUEL or NO COMPRESSION. If you do not see a spark, the problem is in the IGNITION CIRCUIT.

3)Proper fuel pressure is critical for fuel injected engines to start and run. You should hear the fuel pump inside the fuel tank buzz for a couple of seconds when the ignition is turned on (no buzz means the pump is not running and the engine is not getting fuel). You can smell the tailpipe for gasoline vapors after cranking the engine. If you smell gas, the problem is likely not fuel but NO SPARK. You can also remove the plastic cap and press the schraeder valve test fitting on the fuel rail to see if there is any fuel pressure to the engine (not a very accurate test because fuel pressure must be at a certain level for the engine to start, for that you need a gauge). Even so, no fuel at the fuel rail would tell you fuel is not getting to the engine..

Thank you !!

Disconnect the fuel lines at the fuel rail, turn on the key and observe if the fuel pump is sending fuel thru. If it is, then the problem is probably electrical. Remove a spark plug wire from the spark plug and hold it close to the engine block while someone cranks the engine. If you observe the spark jumping to the engine block, the problem is probably fuel related. Just begin isolating the problems eliminating each as you test.

You need to check for gas and spark, disconnect one of the spark plug wire and put it close to the engine block and have someone crank the car you should see spark. the way you check the fuel pump turn the ignition on engine off you should here your fuel pump turn on or you should here a buzz.
