Ok there are 2 ways..

1 .) get a pump machine and pump it out (like the kind most mechanics use)

2.) the easy way

  • under the transmission is a bolt to the oil pan..
  • unbolt it,, the transmission oil will come out.. (this bolt is actually a flush plug)
  • when its all drained out tighten back the bolt and fill it with new fluid.. ( 5 - 6 quarts)
  • easy as that .. good luck

2002 mercury sable wont go into gear. shifter moves, linkage moves. transmission wont engage and or get out of park

ok sounds like the transmission might be your problem
first you would need to change the transmission filer by pulling the transmission plate and draining and replace filter and fluids new fluids prefferably. if that doesnt fix it. you could have a sensor or computer part out only real way to know is to take to shop to get looked at. hope this helps good luck

98 Mercury Sable no overdrive

I would suggest trying a tranny service. Changing the fluid and filter may help this. You can also put some transmission conditioner or something in it and try that. Lucas makes a real good transmission cleaner/conditioner. Be careful not to overfill the tranny though by adding this product. If this doesn't fix it then the soleniod will probably need to be replaced which requires tearing into the tranny

Check your transmission fluid. You could be alittle low. Check it hot in Park while running.

Check the transmission fluid first. it sounds like one of the clutch plates is sticking.

If you shift into second after you've stopped, can you get the car moving?
