the first thing would be to check the level and condition of the trans fluid as poor fluid level or aged fluid can cause these symptoms , when was the last time the fluid was changed ? As you have'nt mentioned vehicle i can only give a general opinion , if you post vehicle details i may be able to give a more detailed answer
these vehicles have alot of problems with the tcm( tranmission control module) internal failures of trans speed sensors. your car is currently in "limp in mode" to protect your trasmission!!!
Safe mode as in it won't shift past 2nd gear or something similar? That means there is a transmission problem and you need to get it serviced or replace the whole transmission. It could be as little as an input sensor but can also be a fault with the internals.
Sounds like a bad speed sensor. Perform an ODBII scan soon. ECU should delay upshift until coolant temp senses warm up. It will not work right unless a signal is present from speed sensor.
Hi:
This same thing happened to my daughter,s car, and it ended up being fixed with a transmission speed sensor. This sensor not only runs the speedometer, it helps tell the transmission when to shift too.
get under the vehicle look on the right side of the tranny there should be a wire conected to it with a clip holding it in undo it and unplug for about a minute or two then replug and try it if not could be something not so simple
Try replacing the speed sensor, I am having a similar issue, except for mine has no tachtometer, you may have two one is a vehicle speed sensor, the other is sometimes called a vehicle speed buffer, one is on the transmission, and if the other one exists if will be in your dash
if you dont have some kind of warranty try to put and aditif in the trasmission it will lub the body valve of trasmission and hopefully it gonna solve our problem if not$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ thank you pierre from montreal
